Stephenson Steam Railway

We visited recently for the elf event and we had a fab time! I wasn't sure what to expect as I couldn't find much info about what was happening. But, it turned out to be a nice surprise in the end as there were lots of entertainment from start to finish. The only reason I have rated it 4/5 stars was because the elf show let it down. The children couldn't see unless parents put them on their shoulders. I couldn't pick my daughter up so we sat elsewhere and just listened, which was a shame as I felt she had missed out. Why not let the kids sit in front of the stage while adults stand around them so that all parents could see their own children. This part was, from my perspective, badly organised. None the less we enjoyed everything else that was went on.

Impressive place if you want to see what's left of the steam age. However I recommend that you book a major event day as they will most likely have more engines running. When I went it was rainy and despite the fact only one train was running. I had an enjoyable experience and got some good photos.The train ride is about 40 minutes there and back with 10 minutes between departures to allow to locomotive to shunt into place or to refill its water tank.

Enjoyed my short visit. The little cafe was pleasant, nice little shunt on the train and people are friendly.

I was quite disappointed with this place.Basically a few engines in a big shed.We got lucky and some of the trains were running.Admission is free,but you have to pay for the train ride.The volunteers at the museum really looked like they were enjoying themselves.It felt more like you were subsidising a bunch of steam railway enthusiast,than a museum.

Free admission is something rare today so this was a pleasant surprise the museum had some lovely exibits the grandchildren loved it

Great railway with a comfortable, 2 mile return ride. All locos are in pristine condition and sound great. Museum is good with locos on display and even one of the oldest engines made! Nice little shop with some donated items such as magazines or books. Recommend a visit for a few hours out and about!

Absolute paradise of railway history. You can see the oldest steam engine of Britain .this is maintained by passionate people who volunteered themselves to reserve this heritage .Absolute quality time can be spent. Pets are not allowed with museum but they can have train ride. If you are fortunate then you can ride steam engine,otherwise replete yourself with diesel engine train ride. You will get feel of 1860...rest room and ample parking space available. They do have event on Christmas so just call them to know the exact date. My son and I visited for the heritage train ride last Sunday. We really enjoyed the experience.

Great visit to the Stephenson's Railway Museum today x really enjoyed our trip on the diesel train to Percy Main and back in the sunshine followed by a walk around the museum which was very interesting, all at a very reasonable price - many thanks an would deffo recommend x

Really nice place. Worth to pay 7£ for ticket. Its a charity organization. Must visit this place. You will enjoy heritage train.
