Cuthbert's Bakery
The de-facto place for afternoon tea in Liverpool. There are multiple different types you can get - the New York style one is fun, but I love the traditional one.Staff are super helpful, and have a good balance between not attentive enough and overbearing. The pasties that you can buy for takeout are delicious!

Picture this: A weary traveler seeking refuge in the realm of caffeine and treats, I ventured into Cuthberts Cafe for their heralded 'afternoon tea' experience. And, by George, it felt like a mini Downton Abbey episode, sans the drama! Delicate sandwiches, pastries worthy of a Michelin-star and scones that might just start an international debate about jam vs. cream first. The staff even seemed to channel their inner Mr. Carson and Mrs. Hughes. If you ever wished to feel like British royalty without the tabloids trailing you, this is the spot. Cuthberts, you had me at 'Earl Grey'. Cheers!

Myself and a relative visited the new restaurant on Slater Street on Sunday to sample their gluten free New Yorker afternoon tea. Walking in, it seemed like a quaint atmosphere although it appeared to be a tight squeeze as chairs and tables were crammed in: the table we were sat at had little room and one of us struggled to get in and out as the chair was pressed against the wall. The restaurant itself is small, so its worth keeping this in mind. The service was slow, though the servers were lovely. A couple came in after us and were served drinks and their food way before we were, which wasn't great as we'd been waiting for a fair bit at this point. When the afternoon tea arrived, it looked wonderful, but looks are deceiving. The savoury layer with sandwiches, the mini burger and chips were delightful and our favourite part. The cakes were a let down unfortunately with my relative unable to eat most of them as many were dry and bland. Most things were covered and sealed, however when we went to pay we noticed an uncovered plate of plain scones on the counter being picked at by flies.Overall, a disappointing experience and we won't be back. While its nice to find somewhere that accommodates gluten free individuals like us, its a shame the food wasn't as nice as it looked.

Read good reviews so decided to visit on a trip to Liverpool. Great decor and lovely coffee but scones very poor. Crumbly and dry. Told the server and was met with the response 'some people think they're dry but others like them'. Dry scones is a new one on me unless poorly baked or a day old! I was given a 10% discount but frankly would have preferred not to pay for such poor quality. A good scone is foundational baking. Very disappointed.

Was there for an afternoon tea (jubilee afternoon tea to be more specific) the same day I wrote this comment. The place is on an off-beaten track, so if anybody wants to feel like a local, you should check it out. The place itself is very cute, the staff is very nice, and the afternoon tea was very lovely. I enjoyed every moment and every bite of it. Thank you very much for so lovely and delicious experience.

Amazing place, can't wait to come back. First time I've had afternoon tea and it was all delicious and fresh. They easily catered for the changes we wanted to make and other dietary requirements to with no trouble.

Read some reviews of this place online. I wanted to support an some independent business for an afternoon tea to celebrate their 70th birthday.Dietary requirements were easily taken care off and the food looked stunning. My friend and I had a very laid back afternoon tea and it was super filling.Staff were young and friendly and were keen to assist.Whilst slightly off the main track, it's a one walk from Bold Street. The only negative thing is accessibility. Their are some very steep steps to this place. All in all, an excellent experience and lovely memories.Well worth a special treat.

Good food, Tasty. They seem to be improving, previously I felt the bread was overdate, but now the taste is very good. I suggest the fish and chips from this place. The service needs to improve though, they need at least one more person. An update (Nov2019). The food indeed is great, but the service time is still very affected when is busy. So I warn you to be ready to wait at least 45 minutes to served. This is something that should really improve.
