St. Cyrill&Method Church, Llanbister
St Cynllo's Church in Llanibister is mainly 14th and 16th century with 20th century renovation. The wide, timber roofed nave is believed to date from the 13th century and the chancel and tower later, 16th century. Extensive renovation was carried out in 1908.Approaching the church from the bottom if the hill, the unusual east tower makes the site seem far higher than it is, climbing steeply up the slope.The interior is rather atmospheric, the roof timbers particularly impressive. The 14th century font 16th century screen and an early 20th century ashlar baptistery with iron gates to stone steps are particularly notable features.Most unusual is the presence of a baptistery in an Anglican church, one allowing full immersion. Its addition is considered to have been influenced by the strong Baptist tradition in the surrounding area.
