The pub and the garden are very nice. Dogs are allowed and there is air con. Unfortunately the quality of food is poor.We ordered a steak pie and fish & chips. The pie was poorly cooked and the pastry was soggy. The gravy came out thick to the point that you couldn't even pour it out from the jug. The haddock was OK, but the chips were out cold.It also took about more than an hour for the food to arrive.Overall this could be a great place, but as it stands, I'd suggest to only come here for drinks - unless you are up for disappointments.

Good food and service. Piri Piri chickens and small plate were really tasty.Went with the family and dog, good to see similar patrons. Lots of families in the garden. Nice on a summers evening for dinner.Would recommend to families with a dog.

Nice atmosphere, well presented food, decor is cosy, classy and smart. Calling it my ‘local’ doesn’t really do it justice. Only down side is they’ve never had the bao buns available

Was abit upset as we wasnt told kitchen closed at 8pm and we wanted a pudding. Then we was told we couldnt even get a coffee as they had turned the machine off. Think they should have said when we ordered the food. It was also my friends birthday.

Never been to the Anchor before, called and asked if there was an area just for drinks, they offered me the snug, it was perfect, the team where so attentive, the service was fab, we ordered food and it was lovely, the chips with blue cheese dressing were to die for. All in all would 100% recommend the Anchor, really nice friendly atmosphere.

Had a really nice lunch here during the week. Sat in the garden and had a burger and chips. Food was good and hot. WARNING the loaded burgers are properly loaded with filling pouring out (get extra napkins). Good choice of food and reasonably priced.

We booked for a Sunday Lunch. On arrival at the bar my name for the reservation was taken and a round of drinks paid for. We were then shown to our table to be told there were no roasts left. An very poor alternative menu was presented which consisted of burgers and fries! No other contact was made my the staff. Other people with bookings also arrived and immediately left annoyed. We drank our drinks and left to have a lovely Sunday Indian in Blendon. Have made a complaint but no response as of yet.

Eat out most Sunday's and decided to give The Anchor a try, can not fault the food service or atmosphere. Sunday roast was excellent especially serving mash and roast potatoes together. Yorkshire however was small and would suggest a larger one which would elevate the roast. Will definitely be returning.

Sad to say it was pretty poor. Waited over an hour for food that was sub standard. Had the southern fried chicken, flavour was nice but the coating was so over fried that as soon as I put my fork in it fell off. Chips were yummy, those that weren't cooked to a crisp anyway. Kids had the pasta and pizza. They forgot to bring the chips out until reminded and for such simple meals I think they are massively overpriced, however the kids did seem to enjoy theirs. Mother in law had an omelette with cheese, she suspected they'd forgotten the cheese. Sister had the crispy chilli beef. She said this was nice but such a small portion. Can't remember what the other member of our party had but do remember he wasn't impressed. Also had an issue with payment in that when the food was ordered they put it on a tab and then when further drinks were ordered were told they shouldn't have done that. This was an hour into our wait and maybe the reason for the delay. We had planned on having dessert also, the options sounded lovely but we had little faith by that time that we'd get it before pub closing or that it would be as nice as it sounded so we left without.
