Lovely walk up to the monument in the late October sunshine, very impressive view from the steps. Read all the plaques, this guy was really impressive in his time, a real hero.

Great views from this striking monument to one of Newcastle's finest; Admiral Lord Collingwood. He faces South looking out across the Tyne to the sea. Good spot to also watch big ships leaving/arriving on the Tyne.

Took the dogs to my daughter's flat in Tynemouth. We ended up beside the Collingwood Monument with a bag of chips each. Sat on the bankside overlooking the mouth of the Tyne and South Shields. Admiral Lord Collingwood was Nelsons' second in command and took command after Nelsons' demise at The Battle of Trafalgar. The four cannons are from his ship The Royal Sovereign.

Nice monument and was used in an episode of TV series Vera in an early series. From there you can take a nice walk along the river Tyne towards the port and there are plenty of seats along the pathway. Also it is right next to the Tynemouth Priory, which is also worth a visit. There is free car parking right next to it.

Interesting monument, rather dirty inside, and quite windy. The view of the harbour is amazing though.

The Admiral who really won the battle of Trafalgar after Lord Nelson was slain. At the mouth of the Tyne, a magnificent insight into a piece of history.
