Absolutely love Samye Ling, The Buddhist temple is amazing, has lovely quiet grounds and is in the middle of nowhere. Perfectly placed to call in if you are near Gretna green and you respect the Buddhist way of life. I personally admire the monks and wish the world was less materialistic and that people were more grateful, compassionate and respectful. The rooms are v basic and the buildings are very tired but they have to rely on donations and volunteers.

A very restful couple of days . Would need to spend at least a week there to embrace the tranquility and unwind . The after effects of covid have definitely impacted on the experience as monks still wear masks and now serve the food .

A unique place to visit, Samye Ling is the largest Buddhist temple in Europe. It has a range of rooms, from dormitories to private rooms, old Scottish to modern. It is notable for its retreats and its exceptional vegan lunches, included with every room.

I've been many times as a day visitor so am familiar with the beautiful peaceful surroundings. This was the first time staying as a guest. I stayed here for one night just to get away from it all and have time to write. The rooms are pretty basic but comfortable but I knew that before I went. The food was adequate, nutritious vegetarian, but if you are a snacker you may want to take some little extras with you. The staff were absolutely lovely and very helpful.I wanted to immerse myself in the whole experience so went along to early morning prayers, silent meditation etc. For me personally it was a fantastic restorative experience and I would recommend a visit at least, to everyone. I hope to stay again later in the year.

Interesting to find such place in the middle of Scotland. We were just driving through, so no idea about the level of meditation or retreat quality ;-)

Was recommended visiting here on our way to Scotland by a friend.Did not tell my husband as I wanted to surprise him. He has a large Buddha at home. He prays and does meditation too.He really loved the surprise as did our Granddaughter. What a beautiful tranquil place it is. The gardens are amazing and you could see that care was taken.Highly recommend visiting. My husband is going to book to stay for a few days next year

Such a beautiful and tranquil place. It's not somewhere you would expect to find in Scotland but absolutely worth a visit. The temple is stunning inside. We were not on a retreat nor did we stay, simply on a day visit so can only comment on the gardens and temple.
