Charde Guest House
I recently stayed at the Charde Guest House in Birmingham with my family, opting for the garden hut accommodation. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a friendly lady who showed us to our garden hut and provided us with all the necessary information, including the WiFi details. Unfortunately, our experience at the guest house was far from satisfactory. One of the major issues we encountered was the overall state of disrepair of the property. It became apparent that many aspects of the hut were old and falling apart. This greatly affected our comfort and enjoyment during our stay. In particular, the bedsheets, pillows, covers, and duvet were stained and clearly unclean. It seemed as though they hadn't been changed or properly washed prior to our arrival. This lack of cleanliness was disappointing and made it difficult for us to relax and feel at ease. Moreover, we faced a disturbing incident in the toilet. Although it initially appeared clean, there was a persistent and unpleasant odor emanating from the area near the WC or commode pot. To our horror, while I was sitting on the WC, I leaned down to grab something and the entire fixture lifted up from one side. This revealed that it was not properly sealed or secured to the ground. Additionally, we noticed two small insects emerging from beneath it. This incident left us feeling deeply concerned about the safety of the facilities, particularly for the well-being of our family members. It is alarming to think that any of us could have potentially had an accident due to this faulty toilet arrangement. Considering the numerous issues we encountered, including the general lack of maintenance and safety concerns, we strongly believe that the Charde Guest House needs significant improvements before it can be considered a suitable accommodation option, especially for families with children. It is crucial that the property is thoroughly fixed and refurbished to ensure the safety and comfort of future guests. We sincerely hope that these issues are addressed promptly, as it would greatly enhance the overall experience of staying at Charde Guest House.Overall, our stay at Charde Guest House was marred by the subpar condition of the garden hut and its amenities. We were disappointed by the lack of cleanliness, the disrepair of the property, and the safety hazards we encountered. It is our sincere recommendation that potential guests consider alternative accommodations until these issues are properly resolved.

The room was damp wallpaper peeling, dirt and mould everywhere in building. Only stayed a few hours for a sleep on way home from airport. It all looked very grubby. The man in charge was very polite. The breakfast convenient that we could help ourselves, but wouldn’t stay again. It was cheap but the smell was intoxicating

Very disappointing, the beds were very low and the mattresses were tired and not at all supportive. The decor was tired and the standard of cleaning was poor in places. There was evidence of a previous roof leak in our toilet/shower showing dark streaks down the wall and the ceiling paper was still dangling. On the upside the towels were really good and the self-serve buffet breakfast was ok.The toilet door handle was broken.I wouldn't stay there again.

We went there with our 2 young grandchildren. It was dirty, cold and disgusting. Couldn’t use the shower. It was dirty and the head was off the wall. Toilet didn’t flush properly. A shed in the garden. Dirty, cold and damp. We lost something under the bed, so moved them and it was filthy. Wall paper was pealing off the wall. Didn’t stop for breakfast. Couldn’t face it. I’m glad we only stayed one night. If it wasn’t for our grandchildren being tired we would have walked out.

Hideous - do not stay here. It was cheap, but should have been cheaper for what it was. The rooms were dark and dingy, with not enough light, and smelt strongly of smoke. There were no tea/coffee facilities in the room we stayed in. I felt like I needed another shower when I got out of the shower cubicle, it was so dirty. The bedding was ripped and torn, and it was all very depressing. Lots of leaks and black spots on the ceiling in the so-called 'dining room'. Breakfast was a sad affair, with just cold cereals and a cheap white loaf on offer - self serve. It all had an air of neglect and its quite obvious the owners don't care about it at all, or about their guests. We saw 1 member of staff for about 1 minute when she gave us our key, then no-one at all for the whole of our stay. Very depressing, I will never stay here again.

Helpful staff, kitchen area clean .Unfortunately the room was damp with wallpaper and electric sockets hanging off the wall. Shower drain and surround was disgustingly filthy.

most of the other good reviews on here say cheap & cheerful" and I can't disagree with that. we paid £55 for 1 night in a twin room on a busy weekend when even your budget Birmingham hotels like Travelodge and Ibis wanted more than double that

Quiet location and room no fussAdvertises inclusive breakfast but only cereal and bread available.Wifi good. Information and instructions about the hotel very clearly provided.TV placed 2 high in the room; will get a neck-ache if you watch for long time.No toiletries provided in the Bathroom which itself is a bit small.Overall passable for short stays.

Very good value for the money. Friendly welcome upon arrival. Nice lounge area and garden, wifi, and ensuite. Very clean room. Only 2 downsides, one... The mattress was a bit hard. And two, the other guests had eaten all the bread at breakfast time, with no other bread based options I couldn't have breakfast as the only other option was cereal and I can't drink milk. But other than that everything was perfect and I would book again and just bring my own bread. Was definitely disappointed that I couldn't have any breakfast as that a big part of the reason why I booked.

Not a great experience at all, smell of the owners dinner cooking through the whole house when we walked in. Description said there would be an iron, hairdryer etc none to be seen. Peeling wallpaper and lack of ventilation in the room. Shower was weaker than my bladder, if I ever visit Birmingham again it's worth forking up the extra £20-£40 for somewhere decent
