St Mauritius' Church
Tucked away up a lane to Alltmawr Farm, just left off the northbound A470 at the village of Abernant, between Erwood and Builth Wells, St Mauritius' church is claimed to be one of the smallest churches in Wales at approximately 10 to 11 metres long. It is thought that a church, or place of worship, has been on the site from as far back as the 1200s, some 800 years. From the right of the farm entrance, walk through a small iron gate, down a 'well brambled' path, under the bough of a tree, and the church appears as if it was in a religious fairy-tale.There is another entrance further up the A470 about 200 to 250 metres, and signposted 'Chapel Lane'.The A470 here is a busy, winding road, and not without a history of accidents, so take care, use indicators in good time, leaving and returning to the road.
