RideOn Porthleven

We spotted this new venture in Porthleven on our visit down in August and had a chat with the guys and checked out what was available… We immediately spotted the eye-catching Knapp e-bikes and knew we wanted to take them for a spin but unfortunately we didn’t have time to hire a bike on that visit but knowing we were back in 2 weeks we made arrangements to hire bikes for the day on our return visit…. And I’m so glad we did.My partner contacted Chris and Matt prior to our return to talk through hiring the bikes and get a booking in place and the customer service was amazing. Chris immediately recognized us when we dropped by out and about the day before our booking and was happy to have a good chat and talk us through everything as well as double checking I would be comfy on the Knapp bikes (being a lot shorter in stature than average).The pick up was easy and the bikes were great fun – we comfortably enjoyed a full days riding (despite not being regular cyclists) and the pedal assist bikes made light work of the Cornish hills. We cycled all around the Loe Pool, and up to Gunwalloe where we stopped for a little refreshment, then on to Mullion – via a few sights (and maybe some more thirst quenching) before a relaxed ride back via the Halzephron Inn in Gunwalloe enjoying a drink with a view and back via the bridleways on the coastal route with the most stunning sunset over Porthleven the whole way home. In total we did over 30 miles and still had ½ a battery and we still felt as fresh as daisies.We cannot recommend Shipyard Cycles enough, Chris and Matt offer excellent customer service that goes above and beyond – they clearly love what they do, where they are and want to ensure you love it as much as they do – and believe me you will!

A lot of fun! We hired the Giant electric bikes for an afternoon and were surprised how far we got on them. They were good on all terrains and fantastic on hills. I cycle a lot but the electric bikes were just a different experience and gave us more time to visit places and go to the pub! Chris provides a really friendly service. He obviously cares a lot about his customers and provides all you need; locks, panniers, maps, gloves, hi vis etc. Couldn’t recommend enough.

I can't praise Chris at Shipyard Cycles enough. He was so welcoming & helpful. The bikes are top class, clean & in excellent working order.Chris made sure the bike was the right size, making fine adjustments to achieve an optimal cycling experience.My wife is a relatively new cyclist, so we really appreciated Chris' helpful tutoring on all of the bike's equipment, with clear instructions and the ability to test the bike in the safe environment of the Shipyard before setting off on our cycling adventure in Penrose Estate.Thank you Chris.

Had such an awesome day out on the bikes! Good value when you get such good insider info on routes and secret beaches and food recommendations from the guys at the shop. Such a cool spot right in the middle of the village as well! Would highly recommend!

I came across this on Instagram a few months before coming down. My bike was never going to fit in my car along with all our stuff so I booked online which was on of the easier bike rental websites I've used.Chris greeted us and was very helpful. He pointed us in a good direction of where to go. Loe Lake was nice and so was the coastal path on from it. Nice cove up the path where we had a bite to eat. Considering what I've hired in the past this was very well priced for the time and the bikes were in good condition. All in all I would recommend.

Having had an unexpected day off, I headed down to Shipyard Cycles on the off chance I could hire a bike for a few hours. Chris was superb and couldn’t have been more accommodating. I was set up with an awesome electric mountain bike and shown some local routes - what a great way to spend the day! Cheers Chris, I’ll definitely be back!

Chris made the whole process most enjoyable. From the ease of booking to his enthusiasm and knowledge of his products and local routes. Will definitely use Shipyard Cycles next time I visit.

While he was working on opening his new shop, this guy did a back and forth to bring me an inner tube and let me using his pump for free. I highly recommend this shop for his professionalism and his sympathy!

Loved this .First time on a super 73 E bike and it was brilliant fun. Chris the owner is really friendly and reassuring .He pointed us towards great off road trails to follow. Highly recommend even for relative oldies like us Highlight of our holiday

Chris the owner was very helpful and friendly from the start when I was enquiring about booking all the way to returning the bikes. When we arrived he clearly explained everything to us and how the ebikes worked and we had a great day out. No fault to Chris but as a note be wary if you are only relying on google maps for guidance as it had routed us down a few wrong turns on our way to marazion. Chris again was very helpful and communicated through text and phone calls to help us throughout our day. Will be back again next year!
