Brilliant archives, lots of resources including some fantastic maps across Lancashire. Through their WiFi you can access Ancestry and FindMyPast for free which is excellent. They also have audio listening equipment on hand if needed.Staff are lovely and very helpful. The site is also very covid secure with a one way system and hand sanitiser in place.

Despite being situated in a hideous concrete monstrosity devoid of architectural merit, the Archives itself is excellent. Great working environment with extremely friendly and helpful staff.

A wealth of records with very helpful knowledgable staff available to point you in the right direction if you get stuck. (Special thanks to Kate) Tea room available with fresh water machines, and magazines of local and genealogical interest (bring lunch and hot drinks for a long stay) Free lockers for bags etc as these are not allowed in. Car park on site but get there early for a spot as it is small and difficult to park in surrounding area due to double yellow lines.

My wife and I visited to consult their collection of material that relates to her family genealogy. We were able to acquire one-day reader's passes and spent time poring over a fascinating book from 1920 that allowed us to take one branch of her family back to about 1570.The staff were very helpful and there is plenty of parking onsite. For those who need it there is wheel-chair access from the carpark.Visiting the Archive again on a trip back to the UK, four years later, and very happy to report that everyone is still just as helpful! On both our visits we were able to purchase a photography permit which allows copying of any of the documents that we viewed. We actually used the lift for access this time and note that access to the bottom of the lift involves an outwards-opening door, so wheelchair users need to be aware of this
