St Andrew's Church
Have a coffee in the NT café, walk around the grounds of Blickling Hall, but don't forget to visit St Andrew's church. Just to the right of the house, inside there are some real gems. The font has some of its original colour, with lions and angels.Dominating the nave are two life sized angels guarding the grave of a very handsome Edwardian Lord. The marble the memorial is made of is beautifully veined in a very dark red/brown, and the details on the angels wings, hair and clothing is amazing.Look for the poignant brass on the grave of a mother and her twins. So worn, the details of her dress and face only visible from the side.Another white marble memorial on the wall for a lady is tender and the angels are beautiful. The wooden sculpture of St George killing the dragon is spectacular.Lovely estate church, well worth a visit.

St Andrew's Church
I've never visited a church where they invite you to have a go at ringing the bell! Lovely church, with really helpful signs around the building for children (and adults!) to understand what they're looking at. And encouraging people to go into the pulpit, ring the bell, do some bronze rubbing, rather than locking everything away. Thanks!

St Andrew's Church
Blickling Hall may have glamour and the National Trust's enthusiasm for extracting money. But Blickling Church is the real thing ! A proper country church buried in the trees, grounds and gravestones lost in a wilderness but having real history going back far longer and far more representative of Britain's true heritage. A selection of church brasses - including a full size late 14th century knight and a very rare one of a mother who died in childbirth but holding her two babies. But the spectacular feature is the monument to the 19th century owner of Blickling with a masterpiece sculpture by the great G F Watts of a splendid Duke guarded by two over-lifesize angels, one at his head and one at his feet, with wings even linger and larger.Forget Blickling Hall - have a look at it from the front the drive - and then climb up the path to St Andrews and be part of Britain's hidden history.

A quiet and beautiful church just next to Blickling Hall, with an impressive marble funeral monument , work of GF Watts.
