ALEX WEBSTER RESTORATION

Took an old set of A4 size oak draws that I'd found 25 years ago and were in bits, he managed to resurrect them and repair a broken draw into a unique bit of history.May not be the most valuable bit of furniture but if we only saved the high value items, we'd loose history each day.

I’ve just watched a sofa table being restored. I’m sure the person who sawed off & replaced the already replaced stretcher. My concerns are, simply sawing off the stretcher which went into the leg for strength wasn’t a good idea. Ageing the replacement piece to make it look original is something I wouldn’t do unless I told any prospective buyer what I’d done. Was this done, I’d love to know. Also by washing the top with a mauve product I guess must be methylated spirits would simply encourage the wax to sink deeper.My choice would be to carefully prepare the surface then apply white Shellac polish, then wax the top. Paying $2000 from the young man at the Estate was way too much.

Alex has done a wonderful job of building a memorial bench for my late brother who passed away earlier this year.The unique solid panel for the backing was his idea and after running it past us as a family he's created something really stunning. Everyone who's seen it so far have said it's absolutely beautiful and as a family we couldn't agree more.One of Alex's guys - Gav drove from North Wales to Bristol to deliver it for us too and was great with the family when he met them too.
