The Cumberland Inn
We were staying in the local area, looking for somewhere to eat our evening meal. The reviews for the Cumberland inn were good so we decided to give it a try. There is free street parking. The front of the inn does not have much kerb appeal and in entering it takes you a second to work out where the bar is. It is an unusual layout not traditional, at some point I believe this may have been a family home.We were treated to a warm welcome from someone who could have possibly been the landlord. He welcomed us and our two dogs. We asked if there was a table available as we hadn't reserved one, it was about 6pm on a Saturday evening. He had to check his bookings fortunately we could be seated. There were a few people at the bar drinking and as we sat looking at the menu more people were arriving and it wasn't long until all the tables were full and other people were been turned away . So I would recommend making a reservation. The menu was very traditional pies, sausage and mash , fish and chips , burgers. There was a good specials board. Some lighter salad and fish options could be added .We opted for steak pie chips and peas, and fish pie with veg and new potatoes. The wait was not long and the food came out pipping hot. The fish pie was very good but the vegetables were a little over done.Overall we had a good meal, in a pub with a nice atmosphere, dogs were welcome. We would have liked to sit DMD have a few drinks but we had a drive to our accommodation. There is plenty of seating inside, tables to the front of the pub and there looked to be a terrace at the back which would be great to sit and enjoy the cricket on the field opposite.

We went for an evening meal. The service was good, the staff friendly and the prices reasonable. On top of all this, they serve decent alcohol free beers.

Proper pub and proper home cooked food! We were up visiting friends and this is the pub/hotel they visit. Food was tasty and service was great! Offered samples of beer before deciding which was great. Rbn like a local business not a chain

The staff were friendly and very amenable, considering that it was a busy Saturday lunchtime and they were short staffed. The choice of food and beer was very good. We just wanted sandwiches and, as we placed our order, we were warned that there may be a long delay in the food coming. We didn't mind as we tried a local ale in the meantime! The 'delay'wasn't that bad, about 20 minutes, which we'd expect anyway.Good service, good food and good beer!Thank you.

A lovely pub to stay in after our second leg of the c2c cycle. The food was great in the evening and for breakfast and our room was very comfortable with secure places for our bikes. A lovely atmosphere, thank you very much.

The Cumberland Inn is an absolute gem, deserving a stellar 5 out of 5 stars from yours truly. Our motley crew stumbled upon this culinary oasis during our epic coast-to-coast cycling extravaganza. Now, we had all good intentions of gracing their doors at 8pm, but let's just say some of us were still chasing our two-wheeled dreams until the clock struck 10pm. And what do you know? The kitchen's last call was at 9pm!But fear not, dear reader, for the indomitable staff at The Cumberland Inn were nothing short of culinary superheroes. They embraced the chaos with open arms, refusing to let our growling stomachs be silenced. They pulled off a culinary magic trick, keeping our meals warm and tantalizingly delicious for those brave souls who arrived fashionably late. It was like witnessing a kitchen symphony orchestrated by food-loving wizards. Not only were they saviors of hungry cyclists, but they also possessed an abundance of charm and wit. Their friendliness could rival a golden retriever puppy with a wagging tail, and their helpfulness was on par with a GPS that always takes you to the nearest ice cream parlor. They truly went above and beyond to ensure our dining experience was nothing short of legendary. So, if you're seeking a place where the staff can handle hungry stragglers like seasoned professionals and still manage to sprinkle joy and hospitality, look no further than The Cumberland Inn. It's a culinary haven that deserves a standing ovation, or at the very least, a five-star review and a couple of belly laughs.

I didn't have a room in the hotel but I ate here with 2 friends and we all liked the food. It's not haute cuisine - but it's very good pub grub. I had a chicken, leek & tarragon pie with chips and peas - everything was nicely cooked - my pastry was just right. I could taste the tarragon in the cream sauce. Reasonable prices - mains are around £10-15. Decent size portions. There is a selection of daily specials available. And 3 ciders on tap plus some real ales. Service was fine. I'd happily eat there again.Wines are priced at around £14.50 upwards. There is a terrace with trestle tables outside the bar overlooking the playing fields - see picture. A pleasant spot to have a pint or a G&T!

Absolutely fantastic place! Staff are friendly and welcoming and nothing is too much trouble for them.Great atmosphere and friendly welcoming locals always ready for a conversation and to get to know you.A brilliant giant leek auction happened while we were there as part of a year end growing season of produce. Very random, and very entertaining... will definitely be back for that next one!Food was excellent also!
