Magnificent Elizabethan tympanum above the rood screen. Reflects perhaps anxieties about maintaining social order in the England of the 1580s (assassination plots against Elizabeth I, Mary Queen of Scots etc.).

Hope to travel here in the future to research my family history, particularly in search of paternal Grandfathers: John Sheen-Thomas Sheen-John Sheen & Roger Sheen, from 1414 back to 1380. They were (4 generations) from the Tivetshall area. Wondering if the local church may have some records of births, marriages and deaths from this far back? Ironically, I trained with the British Royal Commandos at Thetford training area in the mid 90's. So close to my own family history! I'm an American veteran searching his family history and connections in this area. I love this beautiful area. Thank you!

Yet another gem of a Norfolk church. Impressive Elizabethan paint work. Famous for being the church of the great puritan preacher Jeremiah Burroughs. Worth the detour.
