Castle View Park
The large circular corten steel structure is placed so that visitors seated on the nearby bench see a view of Manor Castle, where Mary, Queen of Scots was imprisoned, framed by the sculpture. It was commissioned by Green Estates and incorporates lines from a poem entitled Manor Lane, one of a trilogy of three poems about notable Sheffield lanes including Dixon Lane and Sharrow Lane, written by former Sheffield Newspapers journalist and Radio Sheffield producerDavid France (b1942) whose grandparents lived in Manor Lane. (Number 116) and who spent many happy hours playing and discovering at the Castle ruins in the years before the Manor Park estate was built. Castle View Park, created in 2011, takes the place of rows of derelict garages and was formed as part of a renovation of the estate 60 years after it was first constructed.
