Maddy's Jiving School

A really great experience! My first time learning to jive. A partner was supplied which was great and Robin and Colette are great teachers. It was very steadily paced and plenty of catch up opportunities if lessons missed. You can’t help but catch the jive bug!

I attended both the beginners and the advanced jive courses at Maddy's and got so much out of them. I had never jived before but lesson one soon got me moving on the dance floor. Looking round, everyone else was a beginner too. Colette and Robin gently coaxed the group to get everyone up to the same standard by the end of the lesson. They give clear instructions and offer gentle advice. Next lesson started with a re-cap of the previous week and moved onto some new moves. It gets you moving and keeps you fit. It's great fun and such a laugh in a relaxed atmosphere. Now I can dance with anyone and have met some great people. Give it a go, try something new and get fit having fun.

My partner and I went to both the Beginners and Advanced, and had a whale of a time. Colette and Robin are tremendous teachers, full of joy and delight, and as a complete novice myself I found their style to be approachable and engaging. Each step is explained thoroughly and in an accessible way, meaning that you can't help but get thr hang of it eventually!One improvement would be to learn each step in a slightly more musical way; that is, by explaining the beats and rhythms of the dance as it relates to the accompanying music. Sometimes when music was introduced we lost our way because we weren't sure about when exactly to make the move, or when to twist or spin (i.e. on the downbeat or the upbeat?, counting 1-2-3-4 each step, etc.). More precision there would have been welcome. It's possible to finish the whole course and forget some steps, so a brief outline or checklist, with demonstrations/descriptions could be helpful.That said, overall it's a hugely entertaining and uplifting course - perfect for any couple, friend group, or even just on your own! A lovely way to spend a Wednesday evening.

Such a fun a approachable Jive class with lovely teachers. You are not learning you are having fun dancing!! I strongly recommend it

Colette and Robin are both incredible teachers, fantastic dancers and wonderful people. They will transport you to the 50's and get you grooving in no time at all. Loved their energy and teaching style. Their classes are friendly and inspiring and organised into 5 weeks and 2 levels - so the potential to progress from absolute beginner to intermediate is there. I did both the levels and really enjoyed it. They run only 3 courses a year and there are very few places in London to learn Jive well - so don't miss the opportunity. Highly recommended!

Danny and I love these classes. We originally did the beginners class, followed by the advanced class around 22 years ago.This year, we decided that we wanted to brush up on our moves, so we have just completed the advanced class again. Robin and Collette are absolutely delightful. They explain every routine very clearly and make it really fun - within minutes we were dancing again! Julia and I had a great time at the recent advanced class, about 22 years after we last did one! Thankfully Robin and Collette were very patient and made every session so much fun. They always look the part too and are very happy to share tips and ideas about vintage 50s clothing. I highly recommend the classes and you always come away smiling. Really fantastic dance course! Colette and Robin are great teachers who ensure everyone is really comfortable and having an enjoyable time. You learn a lot in a short space of time and if you don't come with a partner you often have the chance to dance with an experienced helper. A great way to learn a fun dance in a relaxed class that's welcoming of everybody.

Would recommend this course. Instructors, Colette and Robin, put a real fun element into learning. They not only break down the steps, gradually building on the moves as they blend into a dance. They also come around, observing and correcting and giving tips to improve and understand better. The group size is around 40 students but you really feel that you are looked after as individuals. The 90 minutes goes fast but surprising you learn so much. Great way to exercise, build skills and confidence in movement not only for Jive but in general dancing. Great thing is only 5 weeks commitment with a break then another 5 weeks. Definitely got the Jive bug :-)

I signed up and did both the beginners and advanced courses. I signed up alone so was a bit nervous at the beginning but was quickly paired with a partner and then went on to complete both courses with them.Collette and Robin are warm and endearing instructors who peperred every class with many call-outs of motivation, praise and commendation to all of the learners. They made sure to go around the room helping individual sets of couples with their routines and letting them know how they can improve.The timings of the class were perfect as there was enough time for me to get back from work, get refreshed and then head in for a class. I drove to the classes so street parking was readily available at the time that I did the classes and that was a nice advantage.On days where some partners were not able to make it, they always had volunteers in attendance who could help for the day which contributed to the feeling of 'no one left behind'.A thoroughly enjoyable experience, well worth the price and also helps keep active in a fun way while learning a new skill. I'd highly reccomend signing up.
