West End Medical Practice

After having an operation 6 weeks ago , and given a letter from the hospital to give to west end medical,recently had an infection which is painful,I called my doctors who I have been with since birth, I called up for an emergency appointment only to be told they have removed me from there doctors because where I stay which I have stayed in the same area since I was born, no help whatsoever and told to register elsewhere, absolutely disgusting behaviour and I shall be taken this further,

Best medical practice. Staff are nice and the doctors are attentive. Never had a problem contacting them.

Spilled urine sample and a prescription our midwife requested which took over 6 days (!) to be sent to the pharmacy. Not to mention the prescription was the wrong frequency and amount, meaning we needed to book yet another call-back to rectify. The admin staff are often abrupt and unfriendly, even when you go out of your way to be polite and sympathetic to the stress they must be under. Totally understand that the service is overwhelmed but it's hard not to be disappointed when basic delays and poor communication like this happen.

Doctor was fine on the phone, but grumpy receptionist is rude, same as last year. I'll formally complain but just writing here to inform people, do not expect an empathy or respect until you see the doctor.

This is the first time I've felt compelled to write a review on a GP's surgery. After living 30 years in England and seen a degradation of services from my previous local GP surgery in Hampshire, the service from the team at West End Medical Practice in Edinburgh has been superb. On the off occasion Ive called, a Dr has called me back as promised and provided either a consultation via the phone or where required face to face. Follow ups have happened as committed, prescriptions ready when required and always a welcoming smile from the reception team. Thank you to the whole team at West End Medical Practice for all that you do.

Had a really good experience with the doctors here. They showed real care and were expeditious in aiding me with with my medical problem. Also the building is nice

Dr Kelly is the best Doctor in this practice. Compassionate, kind and excellence in her work. Good manners, impeccable knowledge and an asset to the practice. They are lucky to have her.

Yesterday evening, I went to the GP wanting to register as a patient. The lady at the front desk started to take my details to pass it on the person who is in charge of registering new patients. My first language is not English, therefore, I misspelled my email address. When I tried to correct her, she just crossed out everything and told me she was not getting anything I was saying, in a very rude way. She made me write all my details again, not only my email. It was a little bit shocking, I asked if I should write everything or just my email and she replied 'Yeah, quickly'. I found it very rude and unacceptable, specially coming from a healthcare professional, which are supposed to treat everyone the same regardless their background.

The appointment system for this practice is shocking. I have recently moved to the area. Long before requiring a new repeat prescription I a) I registered as a new patient following the guidance online and b) ensured that I called at 8.30am as told to book a consultation with a doctor to approve the prescription as, since I was a new patient, it was mandatory to do so. I called every morning for a week at 8.30 and the lines were busy until 9am, at which time I was told everyday that there were no appointments and to call back again tomorrow at 8.30. I have now run out of my medication, which could have been avoided. I appreciate that the practice are short staffed and dealing with medical emergencies. However, leaving me to now go without my medication creates a situation that could in itself lead to an emergency. If I had a choice, I would register with a different practice, but unfortunately this is the only one within my catchment area.

I had an IUD fitted with Dr Smith and whilst it was a little uncomfortable, it was a lot better than I'd been anticipating! She was excellent as was her assistant and I felt very reassued whilst having the procedure done. Thank you!
