When I’m looking for fantastic, quality, yet affordable French wines, this is my place to go! Each wine has clearly been carefully sourced with taste and quality in mind, offering exciting hidden gems or affordable classics the traditionalists can rely on. Their repertoire is ever growing and evolving ensuring only the best of the best is available. More importantly, I’ve only ever found the Hourlier team to be a down to earth, knowledgeable team that can point me in the right direction when a little inspiration is needed to help build up the cellar or pick something enjoyable when I’ve made an effort with my cooking menu. This is my first port of call when looking for a taste of France- and with all the recent travel restrictions to France, they’ve kept me supplied on a little taste of France to keep me going until we’re all free again! I couldn’t recommend Hourlier Wines enough.

Delighted to discover this brilliant wine merchant whilst staying nearby. Visited several times and was very impressed with the range of French wines - we tried some of the white and red burgundies, plus Bordeaux and Beaujolais. All excellent along with absolutely charming and extremely knowledgeable service. I live a long way away but will be registering for one of their subscription delivery services as this is a rare find.

While I am not a great connoisseur of wines, I know what I like and I have been fortunate to have travelled the world and experienced some of the finest wines. JP Hourlier Wines, personally know all of the vigneron who produce the wines they sell in their Melbourne Derbyshire wine cellar. But most important of all, JP Houlier know their individual clients tastes. My wife and I have totally different palettes, yet with each visit, the Hourlier Family always surprise, with something special for both of us. Probably the only wine merchants in the UK where you will receive a truly French warm welcome. Its like walking into a local French wine cellar to meet old friends. The collection of wines is extraordinary and at very reasonable prices for the excellent quality of wines. A French jewel hidden in the South of Derbyshire. Not to be missed!

Pierre Hourlier Wines is an outstanding wine merchant. I've known Pierre for many years as he has supported our Wine Society with many tastings and talks. He sources his wines with great personal care and integrity, trading on the timeless principles of trust. His speciality is Languedoc-Roussillon, but his reach is much wider than this leading to a rich and varied selection many of which are exclusive to Hourlier due to his personal sourcing strategy.The shop/cellar in Melbourne (UK!) is a treasure trove for wine lovers and well worth a visit.A rare gem in an increasingly commoditised world.

Hourlier Wines is a gem of a wine supplier. I first bumped into Pierre and Jean Pierre at a food and drink festival a few years ago and I was impressed with the knowledge and passion instantly. From my few incoherent phrases about what I liked they were able to recommend superb wines which I have enjoyed immensely.Since the wine store opened up in Melbourne the experience has just got better, I would recommend a visit to anyone. You are made to feel welcome but never pushed and a lack of knowledge is not a problem, trust me I should know!Over the years I have tried different types of wine and I am on a voyage of discovery. What I can say is whether it white or red, Bordeaux or Burgundy, Alsace or Languedoc the quality remains very high indeed. In this early season hot weather I have even tried a range of the rosé, usually a no go area for me and I have had some exquisite wines and I am now a fervent convertWe have had two tasting sessions at our home and our guests have always been delighted both with the range of the wines and the knowledge and style of Jean Pierre and they make for a great evening.On this lockdown they have quickly adapted and offer a first rate delivery serviceIt may be obvious from this that I am a huge fan but in reality I am not easy to please but this status has been earned through excellent personal customer service, great knowledge and most of all an outstanding selection of French wineI cannot recommend them highly enoughSteve Evans

What a fantastic place! Amazing selection of French wines from small producers, artisanal French foods - cassoulet, soups, tinned fish, paté - and port. The owners deal with the producers direct, which means that the selection they are selling is very different from what's on sale in most UK wineshops. I was particularly impressed by the wide selection of wines from Languedoc-Roussillon, Province and the South-west. And great service from the helpful and friendly owner.

Quality, Value, Friendly, Efficient and Speedy, all aspects of a specialist French Wine company in the UK that fully deserves a 5 star rating. I have used local, regional and national wine suppliers for domestic use over many years and none offer the service that Pierre Hourlier Wines does. If someone knows of a company that is better than this then I would love to know about them.

France's best kept secrets - this is no idle boast from Pierre Hourlier Wines. They know each grower individually, and every wine is chosen on it's own merit. No supermarket plonk here, only high quality fabulous tasting French wines at a very affordable price.

Over the last five years we have ordered from Pierre Hourlier regularly. We went to Pierre originally to but some unique glasses we couldn't find elsewhere and then spotted his excellent selection of Cremant. After a couple of Cremant orders we realised that his ability to select and source first class Cremant must mean that he would have the same skill in selecting red and white wines as well. Sure enough we were right! Now we realise that not only that he focusses on the regions that we love for those wines, particularly Languedoc, Aude and Minervois. So we are hooked and I can only recommend Pierre Hourlier to everyone else as well. Excellent wine, excellent quality, great price and fantastic all round personal service. Nothing more to say.
