St Martin's Church
Beautiful little church looking out onto the cathedral opposite. You’d almost miss it tucked between the shops and cafes but it is a lovely little bit of peace inside the city. Thoroughly enjoyed reading all the information inside about this very old church. The people inside were very pleasant and it was interesting to see some of the old displays. Some magnificent sculpture but mostly just fascinating to see how this church fit into the city’s fabric since medieval times.

Lovely little church tucked away in the shadow of the cathedral. The church is older than the cathedral and is maintained by the churches conservation trust. It is well worth a visit.

A beautiful serene space, gentle energy and unmodified unlike St John's over the road.

What do you do with an empty little church dedicated to beggars? A church older than the Cathedral its front door looks out upon? This unassuming building holds love between its walls.St Martin's Church was founded by Martin of Tours from Burgandy who evidently cut his shoulder cape in half and placed it around a shivering beggar. Good for him. We need more honest billionaires willing to share their capes. How about using the church as a cafe for the poor where millionaire Exeter entrepreneurs pay for all the food?

St Martin's Church
St Martins's is one of the best preserved small medieval churches of Exeter. An exciting detail is the fact that St. Martin's is known to have been consecrated to Our Lord Jesus Christ, the Holy Cross, Mary Mother of God, St Martin and All Saints of God on 6 July 1065.The church stands in the middle of considered as a historical part of the site, next to the Cathedral. Quiet and cosy, St Martin still keeps the atmosphere of the parish.

Still going strong since 1065, a year before the Norman Conquest, although temporarily closed due to Covid 19. St. Martins is cared for by the Churches Conservation Trust. Although the church is no longer used for regular worship, it remains consecrated, and when conditions permit, will re open to all.
