This is a great place to visit to see aircraft up close take photos and shoot videos, however a note of caution if you are looking to visit. Firstly there is little or no room for parking, and if you do park under the approach lights between the flashing lights you will be asked to move either by the police or military police so find somewhere to park respecting the locals of course. This can be a busy road and there are no paths so take care walking to this spot, there is a fence at the end of the runway but if your over 6ft you should see over it ok, be mindful of the road when standing on the grass verge, stay safe and enjoy watching the aircraft. One thing to bare in mind is that this is a military airfield which tend to be less busy than lets say Heathrow.

Excellent Airbase went from here in 91 the RAF food was lovely. As a spotting/photography location end of runway 26 best for arrivals just be careful parking as its a fast busy road. You can take picks of the Hercules from the track by the distillery easily.

Just a place to park and wait for the arrival of the person/s you pick up or drop off. You can't leave your vehicle. There are no services but the town is nearby

We went to meet our son who was returning from a 4 months' overseas deployment and were directed to a visitors' hut (more like an oversized container). It had a vending machine it with just fours bars of chocolate in it, no drinks and the toilets none too clean. There was no transport for the returnees with their masses of baggage to be conveyed from the arrivals hall to the main gate because they were informed 'it's a Sunday'. Come on Brize surely you can do better than this.

Bobby Pun owns this exquisite facility. He's gonna fly Concordes 24/7 from here soon.

Formerly stationed here, no junior ranks mess for around 2 years, no dryers for the juniors (instructed to drive to Witney to dry in local launderette). Street lighting not working at many locations. In short a discrace to the RAF!

Was an AF dependent and lived there '62 to '65, grades 1 to 3. My Dad was a USAF bomber pilot--B-47. Can find the house we lived in on Google Earth and Shilton Pond where we'd ride our bikes down the hill and through the shallow pond. The pics of Shilton show it hasn't changed a bit. I was stationed at Incirlik, Turkey '93-'95 and visited the area in '94 to show my wife and kids the sites, and Carterton had definitely grown. Americans turned it back to the RAF when we left in '65, and it's been RAF since. Wonderful part of England--Cotswold--maybe a little over an hour from London.

No facilities for Airmen. Mess was full of Cockroaches and food was always disgracefull, unless the Army were in charge. Local town is full of inbreds & the shops rip of the service personell!!
