Walking through from Washington village to Chanctonbury Lane with my faithful German Shepherd Amber, we would often stop and sit on the church bench and look up at the beautiful South downs, and always remember the massive Yew Tree, and particularly in the winter months when it was covered with snow, the church inside is very peaceful, and would often sit there to relax.

Truly ancient yew 1000yrs (guess) front and other elderly and young yews stretch over as you admire. Small but modest outside and in the Saxon history is told in stone and words from thoughtful scribes inside. Pause and the faithful atmosphere fills as you breathe the silent moist air. Dendrologists would fight to examine the beams fortified in the early 1800s! Lovely later stained glass brings colour too. Well worth a visit.

A wonderful ancient church. Well worth going to a service if you have time. Nestled at the foot of the South Downs amid a lovely working farm. There is the most amazing cafe situated close by.I would definitely recommend visiting this quaint little place.

A Beautiful church dated from saxon times.Friendly congregation and activities.Walks in the downs are superb. A real peice of our heritage and history. Really worth a visit.
