Worst afternoon tea.Clearly frozen macarons, Iceland quiche, bland sandwiches on cheap bread.And it was £50 for two people.

Dropped in for cheesecake and drinks yesterday as a special half term treat with my girls. It looked wonderfully quirky, so much to look at, great background music and atmosphere. We ordered 2 biscoff cheesecakes, a biscoff milkshake, an iced latte and fruit tea. The iced latte arrived with a straw that was ridiculously short- no biggy but a funny first impression !The tea arrived in a cute but stained tea pot (spout was brown and all around the handle on the lid was brown), a cup that was a bit dirty (sticky on outside and stained on inside) - so this was a shame. The lady then came to say they hadn't got any cream for the milkshake, but this didn't matter too much to us. The biscoff cheesecake came but my daughter had a dirty plate,(remnants of someone else's chocolate cake). We didn't say anything as we didn't want to make a fuss, so we didn't give them a chance to put it right which maybe they would have done. The service was fine, the lady apologised about the cream! The 3 drinks and 2 cheesecakes came to £19, I'm not sure I consider this great value as there was not anything evidently that amazing about the cheesecakes or drinks. I'm not sure we had a discount either for the missing whipped cream! Another lady came in whilst we were there and bought 3 slices of cheesecake for over £11 but there were no bags for her to carry them. I just felt it was a little disorganised. I noticed their hygiene rating was displayed as a 4 on the sticker, but when I checked, the most recent one from August is actually a 3.I don't usually check them as a rule! But I did feel that hygiene was compromised, (Perhaps the dishwasher is not washing effectively).I'm not sure but I'd assume they should be displaying the most recent rating. If they had though, and I'd seen it, I'm not sure if I'd go in. I've been involved a little with food safety and hygeine and It doesn't take a lot to get a 5!This is a massive shame. I so wanted us to have a lovely experience. There are not many places that are this quirky and it has so much potential.

Great quirky place to have some tea and cake. There is a gentleman's room upstairs and a Alice in Wonderland style decorated room downstairs. The staff is very friendly.

The Eccentric Englishman since 2021! This place is a true gem in town. The unique blend of 19th-century gothic-industrial steam-powered machinery and a touch of Phileas Fogg's spirit creates an unforgettable atmosphere. Lord and Lady Muck have truly outdone themselves with this establishment.From the moment you step in, you're transported to a world of elegance, soft-gothic charm, and inventive Steampunk aesthetics. The ongoing events, from Bottomless Brunch, comedy night, Harry Potter, to live music, ensure that there's always something exciting happening here.The decor is impressive, a perfect mix of historic and whimsical elements. The staff is friendly, and the cleanliness of the place is commendable. I'm eagerly looking forward to returning for their delightful cocktails. Absolutely lovely place for an afternoon tea. From the moment you walk in, your eyes go into overdrive as you try to focus on all the wonderful decorations that cover the walls and ceilings.The food is presented on bone China, it’s well prepared and tastes fantastic. The third course is homemade cheesecake, I wasn’t sure I was going to like it but oh my, it left me feeling it was the best I’d ever tasted.Don’t go in expecting a large seating area, it’s small and cosy, my only negative would be I tried to initially book online but after no reply for three days I called.Three afternoon teas, one a vegetarian option which arrived on its own board, a very nice touch.We attended as a birthday treat for our daughter, we ordered a home made cake and again, it was one of the best we’d tasted, we will definitely visit again.

We entered into this Alice in Wonderland grotto as it looked so enticing from outside, and it didnt disappoint inside, all manner of interesting memorabilia, trinkets and excerpts from the book on pictures end even chair covers!Very warm welcome by the owner(?) and we were seated immediately although the table hadnt been cleared from the previous customers....it was done fairly quickly.From then on, the service was not as good.We ordered a pot of tea for 2, seeing all sorts of wonderful teapots on the other tables, a posh fish finger sandwich and a bacon, brie and cranberry panini, both these came with crisps and salad.The tea arrived soon, first big problem, the pictured tea pot is impossible to pour without filling the saucer and table with tea too. Luckily, we had a box of tissues so mopped up as the staff were busy with themselves. Pouring the tea for a 2nd cup involved another tissue to catch the errant tea....the spout of the pot really does not lend itself for practical use.The food on arrival was very tasty, well presented and the fish finger sandwich was excellent. Unfortunately, no cutlery or napkin was provided..so it was fingers only and another tissue from our box. The waitress didnt return to the table until the very end.When we asked for the bill, it was brought over swiftly, amount spoken and card reader presented, I thought perhaps the waitress was playing the part of the Queen, however, as she didnt say anything else, not even off with their heads"

Wow, what can i say? Eccentric is the right name for this place, what an eclectic decor, but its so cool at the same time, the prices are very good and a lot to choose from on the menu, they even do home made cheesecake fresh every day with everything from a full english to afternoon tea. You really need to come here.

The cafe is very pretty looking, however the food is not very good. I had a panini which when I turned it over had several spots of mould, the waitress did apologise and replace it but I was surprised it wasn’t noticed before it was served to me as they were quite large spots of mould. My friend had a jacket potato which was only lukewarm. Also to be noted that they allow dogs but this isn’t made clear on a sign etc, my friend is scared of dogs so we went to pay shortly after the person with the dog arrived. We did however have to wait for a few minutes for a member of staff to take our payment as they had both disappeared. Tables are also very close together so not the place to go if you want to have a private conversation. I really wanted to like the cafe as it is quirky but unfortunately it didn’t live up to expectations.

We popped in for a quick cocktail and hot chocolate - I have to say it was absolutely amazing!! The whole place feels welcoming, the atmosphere feels like a dream and the staff are so attentive and friendly! I ended up having a cheesecake - todays special was biscoff, it was delicious - though I probably could’ve shared it (I didn’t, sorry not sorry) would definitely recommend!!
