Nick Owen-Petch

After trying to teach myself to play guitar for years I started taking lessons from Nick and have seen a big improvement with every lesson. Nick introduces music theory in a way that's easy to understand and tailors each lesson to the personal goals and abilities of his students. Highly recommended!

Nick is an extensively knowledgeable and clear teacher. I had been stumbling around with guitar for well over a decade, largely self taught and had developed some technical skills and playing proficiency but had little knowledge of music theory. Other teachers I had tried over the years insisted on me starting to learn from scratch and I never felt I was progressing. Nick has taken on board the aspects of guitar I already know and brought in music theory to support that level. He approaches concepts from multiple angles and creates useful exercises to combat areas I struggle with, and has answered every theory question I've thrown at him.

Nick is a fantastic piano tutor to my son. My son started lessons from him as a complete beginner and very quickly progressed to his Grade 1 where he got a distinction. My son Dj continued to get high grades under Nicks tuition and was able to develop his own style of playing and experimentation with composition.Nick is a very patient and understanding Piano Tutor who has a great depth of musical knowledge which he is always eager to pass on to his pupils.I would have no hesitation in recommending Nick to anyone of any age, who wants to either start learning piano or is looking to improve their playing.

Nick taught me piano for about six years, over which time my quality and range of playing greatly improved! I found my lessons really engaging and enjoyable both regarding playing pieces and understanding their music theory better.Partucularly with learning music theory Nick has really helped me improve in and appreciate an area of music which I had very little prior knowledge of.Very much recommended as a great piano teacher :) .

Nick is the perfect piano teacher for my 14 year old son. He has a flexible approach to lessons, making them fun and letting my son choose the pieces he wants to learn. Since starting with Nick he has improved greatly and always looks forward to the lessons.

My son Stan had weekly lessons with Nick for 6 years. Stan was never interested in formal exams, but it was quite amazing to see his ability grow over the years. From the very first lesson Nick encouraged Stan to play the music that he loved, from The Beatles to the themes from his favourite video games, thus ensuring that Stan's commitment never wavered. Like all kids his age, other interests came and went, but Stan never needed to be persuaded to practise his piano.Nick has a genuine talent for nurturing an interest in music. 100% recommend.

I came to Nick having self taught myself a few pieces on the piano and was looking for a teacher to help me introduce more fundamental areas of learning the piano. I was really happy with how adaptable he was in that he wanted to get an understanding of what I had learnt so far and immediately helped me identify areas I could improve on.Since I started having weekly lessons with Nick, I have also been able to gain a better understanding of the basics of playing the piano such as scales and sight reading. The lessons have been really good and I get a good idea of what/how I can practice in between lessons. I would definitely recommend Nick to anyone who wants to learn to play the piano.

Having not played the piano for years it has been wonderful getting back into playing. Nick is a fantastic teacher. The hour goes too quickly. Always learning something new and interesting. He has rekindled my love of the piano after 35 years. Amazing teacher.Highly recommend him to all levels.

I went to Nick with no experience of examination on the guitar, needing to pass grade 5 in order to secure my place doing A Level music. Over our months of teaching, Nick helped me gain a distinction in my grade 5 and also developed my ability as a guitarist and as a musician.I would recommend Nick to anyone looking to learn; his lessons are enjoyable, productive and engaging.

Nick was my piano teacher for two years. Throughout this time he was consistently knowledgable, thoughtful, and enthusiastic about a wide variety of music.
