Toft - Ulsta Ferry

Sadly, my experience wasn’t as positive as everyone else. I wanted to put this on the record so this wouldn’t happen to other tourists like me. Absolutely make sure to book ahead as recommended by others. But the critical factor here is that as a booked customer you MUST line up in line 1. But what is not clear is that line 1 is the line on the right because cars are covering the line 1 marking on the road! So remember: stay in the right-hand line if you have a booking otherwise you’ll lose your spot to non-booked cars, as we did. All subsequent ferries were full. Very disappointing.

It would be nice if the staff talked to people especially non islanders and didn't let everyone else board especially when the visitors are accidentally in the wrong lane and don't know because they don't live in Shetland and the Shetlander who was there doesn't travel to the upper isles so didn't realise that we where in the wrong lane.My health took a turn meaning we needed to get off Unst and Yell earlier than originally booked for but the member of staff didn't bother to speak to us just let every other vehicle on the boat leaving no space. We didn't know we had to be booked on that specific boat to be in the booked lane not booked on a ferry that day. Signage is not clear for anyone who doesn't use those boats regularly.

Great way to visit some of the other Shetland Islands. Frequent crossings and very reasonable cost. Friendly, helpful staff.

Great transport to the Northern Island, my family loved the experience and the return ticket price is very reasonable. There are toilets at the terminal and in the ferry also. Takes about 10 minutes to get to next island.

Staff are great, everything runs smoothly.If using a car, highly recommend you book before hand to ensure a space is available.Takes less than 20 mins to get to the Unst ferry.
