Golden Chef Chinese Restaurant

Used to go to this restaurant quite frequently, however last night was the first time since the new owners have taken over.Sadly we won’t be going again the restaurant was more or less full as everywhere was busy as Haydock races had been on so they had a very large party in one corner and three other big family parties as well, we did book a table for 7.30 when we got there the lady sat us down threw cutlery and 2 screwed up serviettes at us and menus, we ordered drinks then realising they take cash only of which no one told me this when I phoned to book.Could not believe there was 1 waitress on in the whole place who was serving everything including taking orders just unbelievable!When our soups arrived chicken and sweetcorn and a. hot and sour OMG both looked like slop and had so much salt you felt like it burned the back of your throat.We called the waitress over and explained how they were inedible at this point we decided to leave and pay for our drinks this then took 15 minutes as she couldn’t understand what the problem was so £6.00 for a small coke(which was flat) and small orange juice both not drunk which really I don’t think she should have charged anything.As we were leaving another family who also looked like they had been waiting for a long time also decided to leave after us and the whole place looked like fawlty towers such a shame how to ruin a business in a few weeks !!

Fist time since change of owners, sadly will be the last. Food bland and tasteless. Service poor only 1 lady doing everything very disappointed.

Visited last Thursday for the first time since the new owners took over. Unlike the previous poster, I found the food was as good as ever. In fact the hot and sour soup was the best I have ever had! Staff were delightful, and also lovely to see the previous owner, Jenny, back working in the restaurant. Will definitely be returning.

Paid a visit to the Golden Chef at the weekend, this is the second time we have been since the new owners took over. The food was spot on again and there was plenty people dining. Everyone seemed to be complimentary about both the food and the service. Jenny has returned looking after front of house. We will be returning in the near future.
