The Boat House
We were a large party and had booked well in advance. We had selected our choices in advance. We had a lovely welcome and had a lovely table overlooking the Mere. The food was served on time, was well presented and was very good. Just one note , at the moment there is a problem with the toilets and only portaloos were available. But I understand this is temporary. Overall an excellent lunch which completed our celebrations well.

A very friendly atmosphere I went with my partner and his mum and dad and Thierry little dog we were instantly welcomed by everyone. The food was lovely and well presented. Now all the staff were friendly but our waitress was fantastic nothing to much for her to do

I recently visited for breakfast with a friend. Having ordered our drinks and food it quickly became clear our choice to sit outside was an unwise one due to the number of wasps. We therefore picked up our order and asked a young waitress if we could sit inside due to the issue. She smiled and said of course, please sit where you would like. As the centre room was quite full with only larger tables left we walked into the room on the right to find a smaller table. We sat down and started our much awaited breakfast.Unfortunately, just after settling an older waitress walked in and very abruptly asked where we had come from and why we were sitting there. I explained that we had been outside, but due to the wasps we had come in, we had spoken to a member of staff and been told to sit wherever. The older waitress quickly snapped back at me that we had not been told that and that there was a function in that room later so we needed to move. I explained that it was fine for us to move, but there wasn’t any need to speak to us in such a rude tone. The waitress again snapped back, stating she was not being rude and we shouldn’t have been there and we needed to move. At this point I advised that actually I would rather leave if we were going to be spoken to in such a way, to which the lady just turned and walked away from us.As we were leaving I did speak to the lady behind the bar and said that we were sorry we had left our food and were leaving but unfortunately we weren’t prepared to be spoken to in such a rude way. The same waitress then stepped in again and said she hadn’t been rude to us to which my friend said ‘I’m sorry but you really were’. Clearly this waitress thinks this is a suitable way to speak to customers. Our visit was completely spoilt and not wishing to be insulted any further we left. I have never before been left so astounded and disappointed to the point of leaving a venue before I had barely started the meal I had paid for. We won't be returning or recommending them.I subsequently sent two emails to the manager advising of our awful experience, both emails have gone unanswered. Its clear customer satisfaction is not high on their list of priorities.

We visited Ellesmere for a bank holiday weekend and The Boat House was recommended by the Air BnB we were staying in. After passing it on a walk I tried booking a table online. Be aware it is not open in the evenings! Fortunately I checked this after not receiving a confirmation and we booked a late afternoon table for another day. The building is a lovely authentic looking boat house with plenty of outdoor seating looking out onto the mere. We were outside as we brought our dog with us- this is a dog friendly restaurant. The staff even brought a water bowl to our table for us. We found the staff to be very friendly and attentive. As we had starters, mains and desserts we got a good sample of what the menu could offer. All of them were served in a decent time (even though it was very busy). I had pate to start, my wife had the fish cake. We both had a roast dinner for main. I finished with a chocolate brownie and my wife had a scone. All were of good quality and decent portion sizes and priced appropriately. I would highly recommend booking if you are in the area and if the weather is good you may want to spend a few hours here to enjoy the food, atmosphere and scenery.

Upon arrival you are seated quickly but without being asked where you might like to be seated first, so if you have a preference please state that immediately.Service can be subjective in eateries, of course, but we found it to be abrupt and dismissive, if you have allergies or dietary requirements, make this very clear with your order. The Vegan breakfast option isn’t really a breakfast, I would expected a vegan “Boathouse” (English) breakfast to be akin to a traditional full english with ‘sausages’, possibly ‘bacon’, scramble tofu, beans, hash browns etc. However, this was not the case, we got boiled potatoes, some kind of veggie sausage that were like potato and sweetcorn formed in to a sausage shape, a few sporadic quarters of mushroom, a few slices of peppers, some kind of sauce and a garnish of stem leaves with roots. The menu in this instance was misleading and not suitable for a breakfast, plus we had to order beans as an extra and when we asked for brown bread we got white and brown together. The dinner option of the Vegan Persian Curry was nice but nothing special, the flavours were bland and uninspiring, it was a basic vegetable curry and was lacking texture. With so many different Vegan options for a chewy protein, they could have easily added that in to the recipe and with a bit more spice to add robustness, as a curry should be.The location is lovely, next to a lake/mere, which you may walk around after your meal.

Pop in here from a recommendation for breakfast. Great setting great views of the lake. Menu had some excellent choices and was very varied. Breakfast was good however a little bland on taste the atmosphere and location made up for it. Service a little hit and miss some waiting staff full of smiles others very grumpy and felt like was a choir for them to be there. Seen a few locals making conversation so got the impression was a clicky type of place. On the whole was just about good enough for me to try again but mot enough for me to rush back
