Thornwood Springs Trout Fishery

We went here today for the first time and we had a great time fly finishing. The owner Peter is very nice and helpful. Great selection of lakes. We caught 2 rainbow trouts and are beautiful!

Me and my wife after a long lay off visited Saturday 7/10/23. The owner was very welcoming from the off. The fishing was brilliant for us (25 between us trout fishing) will definitely be back for an episode on Trenches. Never been ? Want to have an enjoyable fly fishing day ? Go for it. A couple of hours tuition and I was off, never fly fished before, but I was there casting the fly, changing set up and fishing by myself. I even left with a lovely couple of rainbows for the smoker. Great day, great staff and great fun, give it a go.

Went there one day today and caught my first ever on the fly rod. Very clean and well maintained, lovely people managing the whole lot, totally beyond expectation! The fish is in my belly now but managed to took some photos of the view. Will visit again!

Brilliant. We visited on 29 Oct 2020. First time at Thornwood and my fly fishing being a bit rusty I was not sure what to expect of the day. Honestly, Peter has a really good variety of trout in his ponds, it was an active day with 12 fish caught between the 2 of us. The advise Peter gives was most helpful. If you are looking for some good fly fishing in the Essex / M25 area give this place a go, we will be back - hopefully soon.

I have been fishing here before when I spent a day by myself with some great assistance and advice from Peter. I brough my 10 year old son here for a World Fishing Day Event. We had a lovely day with John as our coach who was very patient and knowledgable, thank you John! I caught 2 lovely rainbows and as my son was fishless at 6 the coach at the next post hooked 2 and allowed him to land them, thank you again. We had 3 casts left before home time and my son caught his 1st trout from cast to net at about 7PM!! A lovely day in a beautiful place, we shall be back.

My first trip of the year and visited Thornwood Springs. First time there and found it to be a lovely natural unspoilt fishery.Peter At Thornwood gave me some great advice on arrival which was much appreciated. I caught 3 rainbow trout.Definitely a fishery I will be returning too.Returned to Thornwood Springs again today and managed a 6lb + Rainbow Trout as well as 2 smaller trout, excellent fishery.

Fantastic venue with a selection of lakes.Knowledgeable owner who's happy to help.Lodge is good for a cuppa and reasonable well stocked shop in case you need a few bits. Helpful if you haven't got all the flies for the day.A good day out!

This is a hidden gem.. You would never find unless you have navigation. Not a particular large place but I loved it. Purpose dug, skillfully designed maturing lovely. I personally feel this place is going places. Unfortunately seems not really popular venue, why I don't know. Has everything for the angler. Well stocked shop, looks like a canteen there too. Plenty of parking, really great management, Peter.. Really friendly, plenty of helpful advice where is the best areas.. I really wish I lived closer. I would be there most evenings. Well if you have not been there. I strongly recommend you give it a go. There's a variety of different options on your ticket. I choose catch & realise, kill 3. I realised 6 in total. Killed 3. The fish were very aggressive takes. Giving a nice little battle for 10 minutes or so. It's fantastic dry fly fishing I thought. Need to induce the take occasionally. As they were coming up for the hopper and missing it by an inch. There is plenty of action on the three waters.. My next visit is going to be September 2023. I will be bring my 10 year old daughter learning because of the location, friendly, safe relaxing atmosphere I experienced there I know she can wonder, And be safe. And Peter is never too far away..Really looking forward to returning.Definitely a 5 Star venue.

Visited for a days fishing with dad + brotherall 3 of us caught 1 nice rainbow troutexcellent advice from owner on choice of fly , equipment and best spots.Will be visiting again !
