Castleshaw Roman Fort

Highly atmospheric remains of a Roman Fortlet sited in a typical Roman location with commanding views down the Castleshaw valley.This would have been at the entry point into the Pennines on the journey between Chester and York.You can stand on the earth ramparts and put yourself in the sandals of a freezing Roman soldier thinking, of all the beautiful hot and sunny parts of the empire
