Ross Hoddinott Photography

Ross has been pivotal in my development as a photographer. He has helped me go from happy shooter to experienced photographer. Each 1-2-1 session I’ve had with Ross was tailored to my needs allowing me to make the most of his skills as an educator and photographer. I always finish a 1-2-1 having learned something new that results in a positive impact to my skills as a photographer. Ross is very personable making each session fun as well as educational. I can’t recommend tuition with Ross enough!

I invested in a 1 to 1 tutorial day with Ross, focusing on landscape photography. Ross was both friendly and professional. A workshop with Ross is like a day hanging out with a friend; full of chatter, fun and support. Even though I am a photographer in my own right in a different genre, I learnt so much during the day and it has really helped to enthuse and inspire me - I can't wait to put what we covered into practice. Ross is a fabulous, patient teacher and will pitch the session at whatever level is needed - I really can't recommend him highly enough.

In July 2022 I did 121 Macro & Closeup day with Ross in Devon at a number of their wildlife trust reserves, fabulous nature reserves with varied wildlife to choose from. I had a fantastic day with Ross visiting a number of locations to get the best from such a lovely area. His professionalism, skill, knowledge is unbelievable in the area & wildlife to ensure you always have the best from the day & area, but it's his skill in picking the best locations and to advise, setting up your camera and help you create the composition you are after and to ensure you come away with an image you would be proud of. His knowledge of cameras is fantastic, but his knowledge in selecting the right area and wildlife to get some lovely images is outstanding. Ross is a really fabulous guy to have a wonderful day with learning about macro & closeup images but also to capture an image you would be proud of to place on your wall at home.I would highly recommend Ross either doing a workshop or a 121 day, but most of all he ensures you get the best experience from the day and will feel after looking at the images you have captured something to be proud of.

I booked Ross for a 1:1 many years ago in North Cornwall. I was relatively new to photography and a little anxious about what to expect. Ross has a very likeable, easy going manner and I was very much put at ease after meeting him. Personally, and in simple summary - I learnt more from him about image exposure and filters in one day than I had in months of reading books and magazines. The image we took at the time had a wow factor to it that still impresses me to this very day.Thanks to Ross’s passion, enthusiasm and skilled tuition, I have definitely become a better photographer in the years gone by.I’ve had several 1:1s since and have attended a number of his very popular courses, all of which were excellent.I would highly recommend Ross for anyone at any skill level from absolute beginner to advanced.

I attended a 1-2-1 workshop with Ross yesterday (11/09/23) around the North Cornwall coast, which was immensely enjoyable. Ross is an extremely knowledgeable photographer and educator who is very patient and cares deeply about the experience that participants receive by attending his workshops. I learned much about photographing the tides on the coast; what tides create the best opportunities, what creates balance and what elements to look for and which do not add any aesthetic value to an image. I would highly recommend one of Ross’s workshops to any photographer (of whatever ability) as you will learn something new that will have a positive impact on your photography.

As a keen landscape and nature photographer to an intermediate/advanced level I wanted to further develop my photographic skills and knowledge. Following online recommendations I attended a 121 course with Ross Hoddinott in 2015 in Cornwall. Ross is a very friendly and approachable individual with a natural approach to teaching, and has a wealth of experience as shown through the quality and diversity of his own work. He tailors information and feedback to the experience of the individual and provides an excellent critique of your images, suggesting minor tweaks that have a marked impact on your final image. Since 2015 I have continued to attend courses with Ross, either on a 121 basis or in group workshops. I can highly recommend Ross to any photographer, whether a relative novice or experienced photographer as he has so much to offer from a teaching perspective.

I've learnt so much over the last 5 years on 1-2-1 and other workshops with Ross. Love the way he teaches, he's really relaxed and always wants you to get the most you possibly can for the time you have with him. I was a relative novice when I started attending 1-2-1s with Ross and have learnt so much over the last few years. He's so patient and explains things in a way that anyone can understand. Whatever level you're at, time spent with Ross is both fun and educational and I can't recommend his courses enough.

As well as being a superb photographer, Ross is an exceptional tutor. I have done group workshops with him through Dawn 2 Dusk and this time I opted for a 1-2-1 specialising in macro photography of insects. Ross took me to excellent locations with lots of opportunities to photograph different species and provided superb teaching in both fieldcraft and photography technique. I have mobility issues and he was careful to take this into account, ensuring safety at all times.I came away with many images I would never have achieved without Ross' excellent teaching. He's also a very friendly guy and great company for a day out shooting!

Ross is exceptional photographer and tutor. It was through one of his books (he has number of the and they easy to read with great explanations) I found he is also running workshops on landscape and macro photography.Since then we been with him ilon number of these. Ross offers group or 1on1 workshops, locations do vary so better check his website or send email. Locations are always great spots, in case weather conditions are not ideal he does have alternatives ready to suggest. Great advise from composure, through filters, explanation of different techniques and post processing.Highly recommended!!!

I've had 3 or 4 1-2-1s now with Ross over the years, all of which have been very intuitive and never repetitive. Ross also has a very simple way of putting things across so you get to learn a lot very quickly. He's an excellent tutor, over the 4 day's out He's also gone out of his way to sort out something new so the itinerary is always changed, unless you requested otherwise, He's always very flexible. I've always had a fantastic day out! 1st class...
