The agents I met during pick up and drop off were very kind and professional. The FIAT 500 was the perfect car for finding parking space, single roads and was very comfortable driving from London to Inverness and back.I gave only 4 stars because the North Terminal pick up station was closed and I had to go all the way to the south Terminal. The pick up station was not easy to find, it’s kind of outside the terminal.

Don't trust the staff to verbally tell you any prices regarding additional cover - make sure you see them on a screen as they won't tell you it's per day, nor that the price is before VAT.Con-man staff member (Chris) gave us false prices for additional cover, wouldn't let me read the contract I was signing - took control of scrolling through the screen and refused when I asked him to scroll back up to the cost breakdown.The car was brand new and really clean, shame that our experience was overshadowed by having to fight to have the additional costs removed when we returned the car.

My flight arrived in Gatwick North terminal. There is no one available to give guidance or even assistance to get to the rental pickup desk in South Terminal.Most people who are visiting don’t know their way around. Signs are few and very misleading. It was a nightmare for many people including myself to find the south rental desk. Most of us follow the signs in the North terminal for car rental, lugging heavy luggage all the way to the Avis office where no one is available, and have to ask for help to figure out where to go.Then comes the late email trying to describe in words how to get to the south terminal.When I finally arrived at the pickup desk, I was met by a rude lady in a white shirt who behaved as if she owned the whole Avis company. She also had a very strong accent, making it difficult to understand what she was saying. To make matters worse, she was rushing me and giving me information overload, and I just couldn’t interpret what she was saying, following the screen, being asked tons of sales questions for additional insurance, and also rushing with the directions on a basic sketch drawing.I looked at the sketch and it didn’t show where I was, nor did it tell me how and where I should start.She told me the car does not have any scratches and that I need to return it the same.I got to the car and it was filled with scratches and damages. All the seats were stained and both front and rear windscreen were dirty causing me to later pull over to clean them because I almost had an accident every time some headlights would shine on them. It looked as if someone sprayed cleaning chemicals to clean it, but forgot. This was so dangerous.The best part of “this” first and probably last booking with Avis was when I returned the car, a guy by the name of “Davide M” he was absolutely amazing. He was very respectful, kind and made the return very easy. Other than that, I cannot consciously recommend Avis at London Gatwick to anyone.

The agent that welcomed me on collecting the keys to my rental explained everything in easy terms. The car was perfect size as I was doing a lot of traveling seeing Family. It was the first time I had driven a hybrid but it was brilliant. When dropping the car off I did get a little lost as the signs are small & when there are a lot of cars around you it’s difficult to see them but now that I have done it I will remember for next time. I feel like the local staff took advantage of a situation and basically stole from me I rented the car and returned it several days early I chose to fill the car up before the return. I used the last bit of local currency right outside the airport to fill the car up. I returned the car 1 hour before the close of that location at the Gatwick Airport but conveniently there was no one to check the car in to confirm the cars condition or the fact that the car was indeed full of fuel. The following day I received an email that they had to fill the car with 20 litres of fuel costing me an additional 64 dollars. I know without a doubt that car was full and that 20 litres would not have been able to be put in that car. Im sure the employs have a clever system to pull this scam. I hope your employs have some sort of oversight which makes me think this little scam includes several of your employees at this location. I returned the car several days early allowing you the company the ability to rent the car again in the allotted time that I had the car reserved. You were able to rent that car again and double your income on those days and your local team got in on the action as well, I assume they fill their personal cars up on the customers/victims dime. I never thought I would need to protect myself from such unethical/illegal activity I used the last of my local currency and did not keep the receipt I should have used a credit card so I had a digital record to use to keep your employs honest.The fact that I was not able to have the car checked in an hour before you close certainly makes me think this whole scam is by design. I completely changed my plans so as not to drop off after hours yet your location was not staffed correctly.Thank you budget for reminding me to always protect myself and to never assume people are good. In the big picture your employees stole a small amount of fuel and stuck me with the bill, its a small price to pay to learn to always be vigilant and assume the worst in people A fine end to my London experienceI will absolutely share my experience everywhere I can to try and help others that may fall victim to the Avis/Budget Team at GatwickTravelers hope for the best but prepare for the worst when dealing with the return crew at Avis/Budget Gatwick

Try not to get a flat tire or breakdown, better yet do not rent from AVIS.Even if you purchased all available optional insurance, you will call their toll free number and wait 55 minutes just to get an answer. They will keep you on the phone for another hour without any solution.In my case, I had to replace and pay for the tire, wasted two days of my vacation.Be aware.

Budget is where we usually go to get rental cars. Their prices are competitive and their cars are fine. I want to give a major thumbs up to the Budget employee at the inside desk who stayed late at the airport after everyone else had gone home because our flight arrived late. A very nice guy who made the pick up easy and pleasurable. Drop off was also quick and easy; an employee walked around the car, checked the mileage and gas tank, had us sign on his handheld device and we were done. I don't usually recommend companies to people, but if asked, I would suggest Budget.
