Dunnideer Castle
Quite a steep walk up the the top of the hill, beautiful views from the top makes it worthwhile.A bit of a ruin and small ramparts can be found.Looking beyond the castle generally west you will see a large recumbant stone in the distance.Very atmospheric.

Easily accessible from the very small car park. However, some points to note if you are planning to walk up from Insch:The approach footpath on the left (as you approach the car park from Insch), is currently closed due to there being unstable trees (a leftover from storm Arwen). Also, the last half of the walk up to the ruins are pockmarked with rabbit holes. Not great for a sure footing, so slow and steady is recommended, but easily avoidable if you keep your wits about you. Their presence however does prohibit taking any buggies or pushchairs up unless you are seriously dedicated and seriously fit. There are two benches strategically placed for good viewpointage: one just behind the big face of the ruin at the top and another halfway up. In addition there's a carved stone viewpoint bench also halfway up, but around the corner from the main walk.

I love this place. I've been up a few times now but my favourite was recently, at sunset. It's a great location for photos and it's easy to get too, with parking at the bottom of the hill. It's a very steep hill but it's short, only being 0.5km to the top. My three year old daughter managed to get up herself so I'd say it's suitable for most people. The castle ruins are lovely, but it's the views that make this place so special.

There is not a lot left of Dunnideer Fort, mainly just one wall and some foundations, but this ruin still dominates the surrounding courtyside. For us the main attraction was the steepish walk up from Western Road, and then the views towards Insch. The signpost to the start of the path is small and can be easily missed, parking is on the side of the road.

Dunnideer Castle
Very easy short walk. It has views extending over the hills. There is a bench at the top so you can relax whilst up there. There are multiple ways you can walk up, one way is steep and the other more of a gradual climb. It really isn't difficult at all though. The only downside is that it does get busy, to say we went up at 6am we still saw about six different people.

Very scenic set of ruins with a wonderful panoramic view over Insch and the nearby hills, its a short but steep walk up from the car park but worth it for the scenery alone

It's quite a steep climb from the carpark to the castle. Sadly there's not much left, mostly just one wall with an arched window shaped hole. The views from the top are lovely though.
