Home cooked but overcooked potatoes and vegetables, mint sauce like water and liitle meat, thin and tasteless. I ordered lamb but it could have been beef for all I could taste. My friend had lamb and was thicker cut and bigger portion. They may well have given me beef by mistake Gravey tastelass.People say british food is bland and tasteless, it is if served like this.Waitress didn't appear interested. So didn't pursue.Should have gone to somewhere cheaper as it couldn't have been worse

A good example of a British pub/restaurant. Being a Sunday the main offering was roast dinners but they also had a reasonable menu to choose from. The waitress service was quick and efficient and the food was not too long in coming. On Sundays all meals include a dessert which were tasty and plentiful.I live in Sheffield but make a point of visiting the Stanley arms when I am in the area. I used to take my mother there. She had limited mobility but the access was reasonable and they used to give us tables that were easier for her to sit at. If you use the 'back's door entrance it puts you on the higher level of the pub which is level and close to the toilets. Good fo those of limited mobility.Overall the Stanley Arms offers wholesome food and a good ambience with attentive and pleasant staff. Forgot to mention a good range of beers and other beverages.

Very cosy Pub. We normally go on Sundays and have a roast dinner. The food is always delicious and the staff are helpful and friendly. There's a good selection of food on the menu and also beers and wines. I highly recommend but I would always book at table.

lovely food that seems to be home cookedreasonably priced with a light bite menu that the portion was generous.beer garden a bit noisy with kids running around and squealing and i never saw any staff approach parents to ask them to keep noise down. There are 2 x small carparks but you can also park on the road.Would recommend.

Attentive service from the waiting staff and a good atmosphere in which to enjoy Sunday lunch. However, the overall food offering was lacking. The roast lamb was ok but it was accompanied by five roast potatoes! Not a parsnip in sight. Little or no imagination with the other vegetables: shredded cabbage and mashed carrot and swede. Disappointing.

So disappointed with our experience. Took my elderly mum and were going to have starter and dessert as a main course normally too much for her. Explained this to waitress who said it was fine. Took about 15 minutes for starters to arrive after ordering. Not too much of a problem. About ten minutes to clear away our plates and ask for dessert menus which were just thrown on the table. After over half an hour waiting for our order to be taken we gave up and I went to the bar to ask for our bill which came VERY promptly. Yes it was busy but staff spent a lot of time chatting to each other rather than dealing with customers. We won’t bother going back.Ps we went to co op and bought our own dessert!

Been to Stanley umpteen times over the years but after going yesterday we don't think we'll be going again. Meal was nice but sat with our coats on as it was cold inside. The people next to us were also cold and we exchanged our views on it. They used to have the lovely fires glowing on cold damp days which added to the ambience of a country pub. Warm and welcoming. There was no atmosphere at all. I asked a young waitress why there were no fires on a cold wet day. Her answer was basically that they (the staff) decide whether to put them on or not because it gets too warm for them !!!! especially when there's a full pub. Isn't it for the paying customers to enter a country pub and sit at or near a table with a glowing fire on a cold damp day and remove their coat to enjoy their meal? Not sit there wrapped up in their coats because thestaff get too warm whilst they're working. Seems it depends on what the staff want.
