Maybridge Community Church

Lovely community, miserably let down by their leadership. The church body is incredibly welcoming and supportive, with genuine love for Christ and people, and I loved being a part of the church for many years. The preaching is usually of a high standard, both engaging and challenging. The children's work is superb, with excellent teachers, though I did find it a little sad that the children are almost never in the congregation as their groups start before the main service and end after it. Unfortunately the minister is incapable of adequately caring for his flock, unwilling to make hard decisions and take action when other leaders in the church openly diverge from biblical teaching, highly defensive when faced with any criticism, and would rather lie than admit fault. He is enabled by an eldership, and at least one of the staff, who are unwilling to hold him to account and instead work to cover up his mistakes. There is at least one unrepentant abuser in a position of leadership within the church- which the eldership are aware of. I discovered before leaving that the church has an extensive history of the eldership dishonestly covering up their own mistakes in preference to transparently seeking forgiveness and support. Regrettably, to my knowledge, this is still the case. The eldership, at least until I left, were openly flouting their own policies on safeguarding and handling complaints, did not follow through on promises made, and gave dishonest responses to concerns raised. To be fair, I did see some small indications of wanting to change from two of the elders as I left. I hope and pray that this develops into a wider culture change at the top. Maybridge is a lovely church to be a part of if you don’t need care from the leadership. If you do, then it very sadly is not currently a safe place to be.Edited to add: The reply describing my grievances as ‘unfounded’ and ‘factually incorrect’, when the church leadership know I have emails, WhatsApp messages, text messages, and meeting notes evidencing all of them does not give me confidence that the issues I experienced are being dealt with.Contacting my new minister in an effort to get me to remove my review feels like a continuation of the abusive power play that characterised my final six months at Maybridge.

Lots of Worthing Churches to choose from! - Moved to Worthing in 2008 and wanted to try all the churches in Worthing one at a time. Started with Maybridge Community Church and I still seem to be there a few years later. Never needed to try any other Worthing churches.Great Worship, friendly people, informal, exciting vibrant growing church with a big vision for the future. Lots of fun alongside taking God seriously. Wonderful teaching and a refreshing transparency of leadership, makes this a 5 star church for me. The church is located in Worthing, near Durrington, Goring & Tarring.Top tips: Arrive 10 minutes before the service starts to ensure you get a seat!
