I went for an interview, then offered employment for Sykes without any checks taking place before hand. I advised them if history that I was aware of, then something came up that was expected to both myself and Sykes. I was asked to prove myself within a 5 working days and asked to provide court documents that take 7 working days to obtain. I feel the company was desperate to set a new department within their group and set me goals that could never be achieved. I managed to get court documents within 3 days; rather than the 7 days it usually takes. This wasn’t good enough and my employment was terminated without doubt before I could prove myself before these unrealistic demands were asked. I’m not it’s that it’s illegal, although morally it plays between the lines of morals. No meeting with HR is explained until 5 minutes before the meeting, at which point they then advise you you’re allowed to have some form of representation with you. Again, this isn’t against the law, yet they play every situation in their favour (always look after number one). After jumping through hoops to satisfy their requests that were unrealistic within the time scale given, it still wasn’t good enough. I was told my employment was terminated because they could not complete checks. They claim to be a family run company who promote people within, although 90 minutes in their company will tell you a different story. The people are nice, but the whole process isn’t worth wasting your time. Other than myself there was also another individual who never passed checks (rushed process to meet demands of a client), who was also denied employment because the process was rushed. I’ve worked in customer service for many years before hand, but this place are the cowboys of the sector. I feel sorry for the new client they’ve taken on, because there’s not a chance in hell they will act on their words. Managers with potential, but a poor, poor company. Standard wage is also around £1.50 an hour under whats paid than any similar company within Edinburgh. 1* company expecting 5* service

If I could give zero stars I would. This place is honestly the worst place to work in all of Edinburgh. Avoid at all costs. These people are awful. They promise you one thing and then ghost you or stab you in the back.

Worst job I ever did. This is modern day mill work. You are a number, not a person and you'll be expected to work to the point of burn out, hence why nobody with any ambition or sense stays in the place longer than they need to I was off sick because of a sickness and vomiting bug that went round this place, and I was told to stay off for a week. I wasn't however paid for the time off work because I was less than 6 months in to my contract. The management is made up of belligerent powerseekers who have 9/10 failed in other career paths, therefore feel they've got a real sense of responsibility, however this is towards pleasing their own bosses and not helping staff. Avoid working in this hellish place at all costs.

Worst place you can work. Classic American capitalist company who doesn't care about their employees and they would pay even less if the law let them. Leadership is bad and there's almost never any chance to progress. Stay away from this.

Honestly , a dissapointment. They claim to be a disability-friend workplace. I asked when applied if conditions would suit my disability thus relocating from a different country, not a joke. I was reassured yes. Well, they werent that being an old dusty building. No relocation package paid either after 7 weeks and due dust was sick, so resigned. Most of people on the floor are nice. Despite that, met many nice people and made good friends too. But what it did not work for me , it could work out for others. I would recommand managment to change some of the above and pay attention that disability law must be complied with. Again, HR was nice, colleagues really helpful and friendly, but building maintenance's approach... No comment for that, rather. If they want to keep valuable eymployees, the key is hiden in details. Just a suggestion. Every call center agent job is more or less stressfull, especially in busy periods, so employees make huge efforts many times to be valued. Good luck to everyone.

A terrible place to work. My time here, over 1 year, was the worst time of my life. The atmosphere in this job beats you down and drove me into depression, a huge weight-gain and unhealthy lifestyle due to demanding night shift hours.Management were always on a power trip and would slander fellow employees behind their backs. The 'high school' drama in this place was laughable. HR meetings were used as a threat on a daily basis.A truly unpleasant experience. A nightmare I will never forget.

Worked here for 3 weeks, it was all i could manage. After working in other call centres i compared this to being in a classroom run by kids. No professionalism anywhere. Team leaders with no ppl skills at all. Training was 2 weeks, first half of day was listening to info being read out to you imaged on to the wall, 2nd half of day was call listening. 3rd week your on the phones, to get on with it, its a sink or swim environment. Once your on the phones youl notice you are only one taking calls whilst everyone else sits talking or messing about. And whilst mr sykes sits in his ivory tower he forgot to invest in his workers safety, the building is old, no AC, a lift that can only be deemed as dangerous, toilets are rank by the afternoon and although some depts have more than one loo most floors have one each either side for men and woman. There are no chill out areas so breaks are even stressful as theres no where to go except for a small canteen with a few tables and next door to that is a room with a few settees in which is kept dark ,supposedly for relaxation. If your a very young 20yr old something and need a helping hand, promotion is so easy, get the title, get the higher salary and go somewhere else to have a better career prospect and better work experience. This is a stop gap place, its easy money if you dont mind all the above. Im old school, and this is supposed to be a multi cultural place to work which appealead, but i dont think the older generation come under their bracket.

Yes the worst place to work for! This is a modern virtual factory line, where besides only the quantity of emails responded to will count, not the quality per se. The training is a joke as even some of the managers don't even understand the product, if too much technology is involved. This is the first time of my life I had to clock in and out for using the bathroom :0... everything is dealt by the minutes and numbers of emails/calls. You get your quotas every week and get a slap on the wrist if you trail behind. Very very childish and toxic company philosophy, employees are scolded for nothing and treated like idiots, even though some have more degrees and/or education than their managers. Many people who work there are foreigners with good degrees trying to get at least a job experience to find better job elsewhere in Edinburgh. However, because the job structure and atmosphere were so lame, I had the time of my life with great great co-workers, and boy did we laugh, as we were all over qualified and treated worse than 5 year olds by moody unhappy managers. If I didn't have my fab' co-workers, this job would have been torture every minute of it, not because of the type of work, but because of the treatment of employees. Even though we worked very hard and did a great job in responding to queries and solving issues, the managers could not stand seeing us having a grand time, so they separated us to keep us miserable, which was ok, as we all decided to quit at the end :). Anyways, this place is just a modern factory, easy to get a job, very low pay, don't expect much training, you just train yourself on the job. Now when I call a call center, I feel for these people and have realized when they know nothing, it's not because they are stupid, it might be because there has been no training, lol. And I were a company, I am not too sure, Sykes would be the one I would hire for my customer service. Very high turnover btw, which says a lot about the company.

Age discrimination company. I went for an interview at the Edinburgh branch for a nightshift position. I had 12 years experience of recent nightshift work behind me, passed the online test, shouldn't have had a problem getting in as they do say 'full training given' but was rejected the very next day, being told I had done well but was beaten by better candidates. The thing is, I was the only one interviewed for the position that day and now, 2 months later they are still trying to hire staff for that same position. I am 56 years old and feel I was being rejected for my age, nothing else. I mentioned this to the agency FPSG who had got me the interview but had no support from them, quite the opposite, the next day my account with the SYKES website where I had up to that point 5 job applications 'under review' one of them for 9 months, suddenly vanished, I could no longer log in, as if I had never signed up.

Worst place I have ever worked. If you get an offer for a job here, turn it down. You will be lied to get paid nothing and treated as just another expandable link in the chain rather than a human being.
