David Lloyd Southampton West End

We joined David Lloyd a few weeks ago but have been a few times a week already. Lots of positives but also some negatives.Positives:Sales team were fab really helpful. I mainly dealt with Kev, who was really enthusiastic showing us around and trying to get us the best deal possible as a family. Answered all my questions and was quick to reply to messages.There is a lady on reception who I recognised from when I was a member here ten years ago. She was so so helpful and always happy and welcoming. She helped sort my cards and also a padlock and answered all my questions. I don’t know her name but she said she’d been here for 22 years.Lots of classes to choose from. Would be good to have a couple more legs bums and tums or classes for us more unfit new members! Quite daunting going to a class when everyone there looks like a gym bod (just jealous of course).Food is really nice in the cafe.NegativesPool is FREEZING. And I mean COLD. Even adults are shivering. Not even the tiny baby pool is warm.Please please warm it even a couple of degrees.I’m not sure how high the chlorine levels are in the jacuzzi but it burns your eyes after five minutes.Club is quite run down compared to other David Lloyd’s however gym has been done up since I was here ten years ago. Pool likes like more of a public pool, however it’s nice that the changing rooms are clean and dry floors.My kids were really excited to start someclasses such as ‘scooter squad’ and cheerleading. However, they’re 100% more of a babysitting class which is REALLY disappointing. Obviously David Lloyd have twigged that if you arrange kids classes more parents will join, as everyone seemed to just dump their kids and go to the gym.I assumed they’d be properly run classes for kids however there wasn’t much leadership and control, and it was more just let your kid run around and do whatever for an hour.I appreciate if I want my kid to do gymnastics I could sign them up to a proper gymnastics class, however we are still paying £34 a month for each child so would be nice for some properly run classes. Otherwise apart from the swimming pool why am I paying for them?!

Great facilities, large fitness gym with everything you would need for workouts and more. Lovely pools and pool area with a big jacuzzi, sauna and steam room. Beautiful club room area including a quiet closed off section great for getting some work done. Employees all extremely nice and helpful, I always really enjoy my time here!

Still waiting to get value for money. Management doesn't uphold its side of the signed contract. Definitely over-promising and under-delivering. Ongoing quality and safety management issues. Unpredictable customer service levels.

The club has been closed again today because of a power cut so we’ve been unable to use the facilities. Since the last power cut closure a few weeks ago there have been no lights at the far end of the indoor pool which is unsafe and needs fixing quickly. Members really ought to get their money back each day they’re unable to use the club due to technical issues

I’ve come on here to thank the lifeguards that very professionally deescalated an issue that happened today at the club even after being disrespected. I feel much safer coming to the club with my kids knowing that the lifeguards are always putting 100% into their role and keeping focus on the pool. Maybe there is some hope for this next generation. As a frequent visitor of this particular club I would just like to thank all the staff for providing a friendly and clean environment that me and my family can enjoy.

Theres a clear lack of effective management or funding at this club, and the level of service provided is closer to that of a public leisure centre, not what you'd expect at a david lloyd.Frequent power cuts closing the club and no offer of rebate or discount. Instead told to use other local clubs which are 30-45 mins drive away in traffic and can't book onto classes there.The above has been an ongoing issue since joining the club and when we were previous 6 years ago.Dirty, damp changing rooms with mouldy showers and ceiling.Cold changing rooms and public areas with condensation.Scolding hot or freezing cold shower.Frequently out of use Steam Room and Sauna, when working aren't effectiveBroken toiletsClasses cancelled after starting or just prior to starting as instructors don't turn upVirtual classes scheduled in place of taught classes, virtual tech then doesn't work.Broken stages bikes that don't lock, even after reporting still aren't fixed.Inaudible sound system in studio and temperamental system in cycling studio.Peeling paint and rusty surfaces in pool area.Inadequate lighting in Car ParkFlooding from blocked drain in car parkFluff, dirt and grime in pool area and generally throughout the club.Overflowing dirty towel binsUrine smell in changing rooms after cleaningTatty, outdated equipmentMud stained, mouldy and sodden equipment in Battlebox area. Hasn't been replaced in year's. Told no budget to replace.Flooding of Battlebox area whenever it rains.For the price we pay as a family a month we expect far far better than this.

Me and my wife had a great onboarding experience with AJ a few weeks ago. We've been nearly every weekday since. The place is amazingly well kept. Staff are always welcoming and helpful. Sam, our PT, has been incredibly informative and motivating. My expectations were high and they were exceeded.

Poor Staff, Poor Facilities, Attempted theft on my belongings whilst I was away from my locker. Many more problems that I won’t go into. Avoid David Loyd like the plague. Not to mention ridiculously expensive for the service & facility.

The club is a disaster.There is ALWAYS something NOT WORKING.It doesn't matter whether its the turn style, jacuzzi, spa, gym equipment or the latest this last few months is the closure due to power cuts, the club closes with no idea when it can open, they even get a generator to cover it, then that breaks, you cannot make it up!I use the club every day and for the past 6 years its constant.The problem is there is nothing nearby to swap it for, so you are just stuck with the poor service and EXTREMELY HIGH membership fees which go up 20% every year.Some of the staff are brilliant, this is not their fault.Some of the staff including Dan the activities manager, is just rude and obnoxious unnecessarily.**EDIT - the response below was done in two hours of this post going live. To date I have sent 4 emails over the past few months and still have not received a reply from the club...:)
