J.D. Tandems

I bought an orbit tandem 9 years ago and have had years of fantastic riding on it. The service was excellent when we bought it, with lots of advice and knowledge, including some customisation for my other half and I. I've inevitably had some parts wear out recently and the service was still top notch, giving very prompt answers about what bits I need. Recommended if you want a good tandem and the assurance of after sales support.

Words cannot express just how good this shop is. The team are so experienced, knowledgeable and helpful about everything tandems. I loved their insistence that we took the tandem for a 12 mile trial before we bought it.Full briefing on tandem riding and great help getting the transport racks set up.Buy a tandem and buy it from here ( and eat fish and chips at the local chip shop).

I've waited until we'd had a few day's riding our new tandem before leaving a review. JD Tandems are a pleasure to deal with, absolutely brilliant customer service. The bike is beautifully put together with exceptional attention to detail such as every new bolt greased and stem cap lettering perfectly centred. Even better I'm hearing reassuring stories from other tandem riders of great aftersales service, so I say purchase with confidence. I've no association, other than being a happy customer.

If you're into tandems, JD Tandems is the bees knees - a highly efficient, service driven business run by enthusiasts and tucked away in Gargrave.We've dealt with them for over 10 years and visited again today to try out their e-tandems. I'm now 75 and Jo, my French wife is 8 years younger so we're both starting to find steep hills a trial. The cunning plan was to see if moving onto electric assistance would allow us a few more years, as we still love our cycling.JD lent us two Tandems to try out over the day, which turned out to be a revelation - hills easy again, even around Malham area! So making the change was a no brainer. A new e-Orbit tandem will be ready in September, part ex'd with our old JD bike.Our thanks to James for his excellent advice and kind, friendly assistance. JD Tandems are genuine 5 star - highly recommended!Pics - the Boss on top of the fells after a goodly climb - easy stuff with the e-bike!

And yes, happy to agree that Brexit is a shame that never should have happened... For those who might think this is all too good to be true I keep my original 3-star review intact below (and I do not revoke a word about UPS):Unfortunately this is the exception to the 5-star review rule here...Let me stipulate first that there is nothing wrong with the quality of the product that I ordered online, nor with the service and communication prior to shipment of the order. That would definitely be another 5-star experience.BUT1 star deduction for missing / misleading price information: on top of a total cost of €137 (for mid-rise stoker stem and shim, quite expensive, but the best option online) I had to pay to UPS a whopping €37,02 (27%) for customs and handling, which at least would justify an explicit warning - and preferably upfront payment of taxes to save me €16,70 (12%) handling costs. €174 for just this part is not a realistic price.1 additional star deduction (could easily argue 2) for the way UPS further screwed my customer experience. Normally, if I have choice, shipping by UPS is a reason to not even consider ordering - as UPS' operating standard seems to be whatever our competitors do

Excellent service from John at JD Tandems today. Issues with our Moustache Tandem freewheel was causing us lots of worries and we were about to go cycling in France. John was good enough to go in on his day off and quickly sorted everything out for us. Happy holidays now. Thank you John

A short while after ordering an Orbit Velocity Steps E8000 in flaming red, JD Tandems called to inform a revision of the price …..downwards, a saving of over £400. Always a good start to a business transaction.To Gargrave from Norfolk to test ride on the demanding roads towards Malham. Undefeated by the Yorkshire hills, just imagine how the tandem performed on our return to Norfolk topography.Brilliant combination of superb product, exemplary customer service, friendly and knowledgeable staff but beware of the tiny, sociopathic dog.Rosalyn Proops and Peter Forster

We took our electric assist orbit tandem to JD tandems for a service ,making a weekend of it,and what brilliant service we got from John,Jamie and the team.In the world of tandems these guys are simply the best.
