Hewins Oak

Awful. Avoid. Ordered 2 x green oak beams. One warped, and not just a little, the other covered in both deeply ingrained water stains and black marks. The company could only think to offer some oxalic acid which would apparently clean the water stains or advise me to sand them out (this would have been a major undertaking as the stains are not just lightly on the surface). Seems to me they a) don't care and b) are taking full advantage of the current shortages of raw materials. I'm sure they will put a comment under here to justify themselves but honestly, do your self a favour if you need timber and go to a company that treats customers with a bit more respect. I would have sent the oaks back but I had to wait a month for them to arrive in the first place and just simply couldn't wait any longer to get some decent oaks from anywhere else as I was already falling behind with the building project..

If you like Oak you should have been already. Freddie was very helpful and happy to advise.Enjoyed my visit immensely, found my oak supplier.

Despite having a number of problems with my order for door linings and architrave, I am pleased to say that matters were satisfactorily resolved and I received a substantial refund after talking to one of the directors, Alastaire Rubie. I feel happy to recommend this company.
