I really enjoyed the owner's calm warmth - being there felt like a heartfelt and honest embrace. After a long journey on the road I'm not quite sure how it happened to have landed in Straiton but as I was entering the town, I prayed for a coffee shop just like this because I am very particular with my coffee and what hands it is made with. The little pastries were self-made with love and you could taste it.Since he does not support paper cups he offered a deal to buy a cup you can keep with his brand and get one filling for free. I did not bring anything back home from scotland except two little stones and this cup. This is the most beautiful reminder, that always brings me a smile. So just thank you for this space.Much love.

Since the relatively new Dutch owner took over The Buck, I have visited a few times now while either cycling or motorcycling and on every occasion, it has been a relaxed and pleasurable experience. The Dutch Apple Pie is (perhaps understandably?) very good and the quality of the coffee is outstanding, in my opinion! The warm and friendly atmosphere of the cafe, created by its owner’s pleasant manner, combined with comfortable and homely surroundings, make this my favourite coffee and cake venue.Being located in the lovely village of Straiton and handy for tourist locations in South Ayrshire/Galloway and the cycling roads of the “Ayrshire Alps” is an added bonus.A must visit location if in the vicinity!

Discovered this wonderful cafe while driving back from the coast. The apple pie and berry crumble were absolutely fantastic. The Buck is like an idyllic dream in the Scottish countryside.

Lovely homemade cakes and superb coffee. Outdoor tables and seating for when the weather's good. (It's lovely inside when the weather's not so kind.) Perfect location in the main village street. Ideal for cyclists passing through.

Like coffee, tea and home baking? This is your place. It's popular with cyclists on good weather weekends and will no doubt be busy in the summer.I'm more often than not disappointed by the coffee that's served in cafes who class themselves as 'coffee' places, just because they have freshly ground coffee and a fancy machine. Neither of those are any use if you don't know what you're doing with them. These guys have taken the time to find out how to make coffee properly, and they've nailed it. Easily the nicest coffee I've had in a long time. There's a variety of proper tea and a selection of traditional Dutch home baking. It's a perfect example of doing a limited offering really well, rather than a huge menu averagely. It's great to see a quality cafe opening up, it's a pity that there aren't more like this round where we live.
