Westminster Bridge House
This was built as the Necropolis Station of the London Necropolis Company, to operate private funeral trains to their large cemetery in Brookwood, Surrey, as an alternative to London burial grounds which had become full by Victorian times. The carriage entrance on the ground floor was served by hydraulic lifts which took coffins and mourners to the upper level platform behind the building, served by a spur off the approach lines to Waterloo station.
