The good: The lights themselves are sturdy, bright, well packaged, and the customer service is friendly. It's nice to get through to a real person so quickly.The bad: The value for money. Lamps aside, the markup on the bulbs is absolutely appalling. Replacement bulbs for their smallest lamps are £20 from the company. The exact same bulb from a well-known DIY store (available in a 5-pack) is £2 each. That's a 95% markup on a bog standard bulb, which I guess is how they can afford to give away free lamps with purchases of large lamps. The staff on the phone are very friendly and will try to tell you (only after collecting all of your details first) that their bulbs are 'specialist' and can't be bought elsewhere. They're not. They are standard GU10 bulbs in a 3500K warm white. They're taking advantage of an older demographic who will phone first before price-checking online.

I don't often write reviews but having read some of the pointless comments from keyboard warriors who haven’t actually bought one of these lamps I feel I need to speak up.Yes they are not cheap but for me, my mother in law with dry macular and my wife who reads endlessly these lights are worth every penny.My HD desk lamp developed a fault after 11 months of almost constant daily use. After one quick call the replacement bulb/engine was sent without quibble by courier at no cost to me.Customer service is faultless and you get what you pay for.I have no affiliation with this company but the owner is right, what an amazing world we live in where everyone can express an opinion - even those with little or no knowledge/experience of what they are talking about.I am about to purchase a 5th light for someone who will appreciate what these lights provide.

I purchased my current Serious readers High Definition some months ago and cannot fault it as it provides a great lighting environment for me providing perfect reading conditions.Delivery was on time and the packaging was of the highest quality giving maximum protection. I did query the model as it seemed to lacking in weight and not totally stable on my wooded flooring. To their credit l was offered the heavier model but my error chose not to exchange. They are absolutely great lights and and worth the money especially when on offer, but do make sure when ordering you check this area. Would l order again YES.Footnote: l finally exchanged for the heavier model which is more suitable for my needs. Serious Readers staff were extremely helpful and highly professional people and can’t thank them enough.I would highly recommend the lights and company.

I have now bought two lights - one a high definition floor light and other an Alex lightweight table light for a desk in a very dark corner of a room. Both are excellent quality and really do give a clear light. The table light is by far the best desk light I have ever had and even though they are expensive, the qualit is great and I would buy again!

Excellent Product ~ Well advertised ~ Expertly Marketed - Would absolutely 100% Recommend -( however sadly overpriced in the extreme considering simple engineering of products - but guess massive marketing budget has a hand in this) in as much that these products would not only make excellent Gifts but would be considered useful accessories for around the home with Crafters, Hobbies etc - little more acceptable purchase price if you wait for a 'Special Offer' to arise which they regularly do. Have bought both Upright & Table Lamp - they're not the ultimate answer but certainly remind you that reading & hobbies do not have to be such a struggle.

Not cheap but worth every penny, especially with the complimentary compact light.Well made and stable with a tightly focused beam providing targeted illumination on the page and with no significant scatter.My 90 year old mother can now read again, despite the worsening cataract in her only working eye.

Was given one of these lights, not impressed similar products on the market much cheaper. From reading the responses from the makers, they are very rude and obnoxious, horrible people.

I wish I could give Serious Readers more than 5 stars. Such an excellent company, their customer service is outstanding and I love my Alex lamps. Thanks for being just brilliant

Your tremendous lights must be the modern day answer to the familiar request: 'Lighten our darkness, we beseech Thee, O Lord....' so familiar to us 'Over-Chapelled' boarding school pupils and repeated ad nauseam from the Book of Common Prayer during our reluctant school days!I have been the proud owner of a free-standing Alex Halogen light for several years. It was purchased on a whim when I was still working and earning a reasonable salary! Despite now having been relegated to pensioner status, I couldn't resist your recent offer of an LED upgrade and, by Jove, I'm so pleased with the result. So much brighter, cooler and more economical, with umpteen opportunities for fine adjustment.The collection and re-delivery via your preferred couriers, APC, was seamless, and the customised cardboard box is a work-of-art!A great service for an equally great product. And very impressive customer service too from all your lovely lady assistants!Please call in for a beer and a sandwich if visiting the rain-sodden Lake District. Your light has helped to alleviate the all-pervasive Cumbrian gloom!

Bought a high definition light ,great light and excellent customer service. I use mine when doing jigsaws and it makes such a difference being able to adjust the field of illumination. Highly recommended.
