I walked around the Old Course and I realized that television doesn't tell the story of these beautiful grounds. The course appears so tame and inviting but I've watched the best players in the world struggle here. As I look out at each golf hole, I can't understand why they struggle. But then it hits me. The wind isn't blowing today. There's a soft rain falling so the greens are soft enough to accept shots from a distance. I see all the iconic holes and views that I've seen so many times on television and my mind wanders back to my memories of past Open championships. Next time I pack my golf clubs and give it a go.

I'm not a golfer but I have an appreciation for history and this place just has an aura. People have been playing golf on these links for over 600 years and walking the course you get a sense of the mystique. The bunkers are so deep, the course looks well groomed but I can imagine it plays extremely tough. If you are in the area, you have to come. And the coolest part, it's public land so anyone can walk the course.

The primordial home of golf. While golf is not why I came to St Andrews, I quite enjoyed seeing the profusion of American golfers so thrilled to reach these hallowed links. The choruses verdant and rolling, with just the right degree of Scottish wildness. There are lengthy YouTube videos breaking down every little contour and element of the 18 holes of the Old Course, and I will not attempt to replicate that information, but I will say that this is a place that has a palpable and dense atmosphere about it. Really is the course ostentatious or overtly flashy. Rather, it is suddenly dignified, confidently secure in itd august, age-warn magnificence.

What's there to say about the Old Course that you wouldn't already know?! This course is as stunning in person as it was on all the videos I watched over the years. In fact, the videos truly don't do it justice.I was able to get the opportunity to golf here. I waited overnight for my chance to get on. As a single, this is your best chance to get on. Don't worry, you won't be alone. It was just like camping and you get to make friends and talk golf. There may have been a few beverages shared amongst new friends through the night, I'll let you decide what they were. I got there at 10pm and waited till 6am when the doors opened and was able to get my spot secured. Myself and everyone else who waited could not believe how fast time went by. It did not feel like we waited that long, but you know what they say, time flies when you're having fun.The staff were amazing the night before and the morning of. I could not believe the hospitality and kindness the staff showed us at the FIRST AND MOST ICONIC GOLF COURSE! If you ever get the opportunity to play this course, please do yourself a favor and do it!The course itself was stunning and amazing to play. I elected to use a caddy (I highly recommend this). My caddie was Finnely and he was great! My group and the caddies all had an amazing time playing golf and soaking in the scenery. I see why they picked that spot hundreds of years ago. Oh I almost forgot, I left you all a birdie on 4. Be sure and try and get it!

I bucket list experience. Was fortunate to play on a sunny day with little rain and a two club wind. Greens are tougher than surrounding courses that require good speed and a little luck. Broke 80 that’s all I hoped to do.

It’s nice to visit a place with so much prestige and hype and have it meet every expectation. The staff was helpful and kind. The caddies were amazing. The course was in excellent shape. This is for sure a must visit and even a place to return to. Easy to find, dedicated parking, fun atmosphere, but still very much the home of golf. I spent two weeks in Scotland culminating to playing the Old Course and even with all the anticipation it still was the most enjoyable and memorable experience of the whole trip.

The golf course of golf courses. Must visit if you have the opportunity. Even interesting for those not playing golf.Little tip: you get to do some putting yourself for just 4£ at the other side, look for the St Andrews Ladies' Putting Club. Real good fun and quite challenging.

Awesome experience, and the staff were outstanding. Playing the golf course was a great experience, but the staff made it memorable. We had to stay overnight for a ballot for the next day but the interaction with the other waiting golfers made it memorable. Try their soup at the halfway house if it's cold when you play.

Great time at St. Andres Old Course and a good round of golf. We won the lottery and played at 6:40 AM. I would recommend getting a caddie as it will help your game and you’ll have great conversations.

Bucket list stuff for a golfer and it didn't dissapoint, played ok on the Old Course but smiled all the way round, weather was glorious and pins were in the same position from the last day of the Walker Cup - The undualtions and some of the bunker sizs are a thing to behold - the best golf experience i've ever had
