Dalswinton Barony Church
The Barony Church (very Scandanavian in appearance) has a car park behind it which is the preferred estate car park for walking the 'Dalswinton Circular' route. This circular route takes you through the tiny Dalswinton village, up a short road then through the centre of a farm [the whole walk is dog friendly walk btw, no livestock to contest with and easy gates etc.] The walk goes *under* the railway line via an arch, don't try to cross over the line! After passing through the arch you turn right and follow a route to a small wooden gate at the side of the river Nith, before walking down the riverbank for some distance to an estate angler's hut with some benches (lunch!) right next to river. This is one of two safe spots to let the dog into the water, the other is just before you approach the girder railway bridge where there is a bench. I.e. some of the river bank sides are steep or have fast flowing water apart from these two. Go under the girder bridge and follow the track, you'll then head alongside the micro brewery/wheatfield, take the left fork until you're in the grounds of the estate. The house is *private*. Follow some paths to the east side of the pond sections of the grounds and eventually you'll reach a bench on a low hill which looks down onto the Folly tower which sits on a spit of land in the pond area. From there it's a short walk along a path through the woods back to the Barony Church, the red paint of which you'll see approaching through the trees. The whole walk is circa 4.5m, allow just over 2 hours. ...(For fit and healthy younger doggies with lots of energy)
