Having previously visited this store twice before and received excellent advise from its friendly staff, today I encountered the stores senior person, a chap called Steve. He was totally disrespectful, condescending, rude and completely incapable of holding a conversation with stating that he didn’t know what I wanted. A woman sales assistant behind the counter made some joke about him being a ‘man’ when he went to get a colour chart. Then the assistant I met on my first visit, who was standing by, clearly felt so embarrassed by his behaviour that he interjected with as much advise as he could give to compensate for his superiors lack of courtesy. Go to the store but do not see Steve!

I really wish I'd read these reviews before visiting this afternoon. I felt completely invisible for half an hour whilst browsing for wallpaper in a vast array of sample books. Eventually I approached a member of staff who had a few minutes previously allowed a colleague to go home early despite both being fully aware of my presence, but chose to serve a regular customer who had just arrived. Finally a female staff member appeared and acknowledged me, but I suspect that this business is only really interested in trade customers.

We've always had great service from Brewers Chandler's Ford & Shirley Southampton. However, this week when my husband called in Chandler's Ford branch, he saw the 'acting manager' John, who was most unhelpful & unpleasant. We needed 2 cans of paint to be mixed in our own paint tin, (brand new) which we'd had done a year ago in Chandler's Ford, & was actually suggested by them as a solution to a minor problem. However, 'acting manager' John, refused point blank, saying he wasn't going to do it & actually asked my husband if Sainsbury's would mix 2 cans of baked beans for their customers!! As analogies go, not the best!! Most paint shops mix paints, most supermarkets do not mix baked beans, certainly not to my knowledge. Anyway, my husband was told 'not going to happen' & no reason was given. Shirley branch apologised on their behalf & did the mixing as requested. Thank you Shirley. Have complained to Brewer's H/O.Should point out out that we were buying the 2 cans of paint from them at a cost of £75 approx, so not as if we'd asked them to mix 2 random cans of beans. Sorry paint!!

Definitely worth coming to these types of places if you actually want advice on the best products to use for the job. The chap in this branch was honest and clearly not trying to be a salesman, which I appreciate. The reason I’m not giving 5 stars is because I discovered they were selling a range of varnish for around £25 more than all the other chains (luckily not the one I bought). A blatant ripoff, unless of course this is a mistake. The customer service rep on twitter seemed to be happy to match the price but this, to be honest, has left a sour taste in my mouth. This feels like disingenuous behaviour to me and I’m now going to be careful to price check before buying anything else to ensure it’s not more than a reasonable amount more than the bigger chains.

Really great advice (and patience) from Jon. Very glad we went here rather than the big DIY superstores - much more personal and knowledgeable.

Poor policy on bad paint match. No refund offered only another mix of the paint. No consideration for customer service when the branch opens office hours and Saturdays and jobs need doing. Go to B&Q, buy Valspar and get the correct match first time and for a couple of pounds cheaper, more convenient hours

Nice store with friendly staff. Helped me get the right colour made really fast. Would recommend.
