Always clean toilets and safe stairwells going under the tracks. Staff are very helpful. Multiple cafes to choose from for snacks.

It's a place to go. I recommend to stay at Hope cottage. It's a perfect place for a couple. The city itself it's so British for a tourist. The castle and the pubs worth to visit as well as the park.

Staff were absolutely lovely today at Colchester (the small station) her name was Shaun I hope I'm spelling that correctly. She was so helpful went above and beyond for me and actually saved me so much time getting lost and going in the complete wrong direction. She couldn't of been more helpful and I now feel way less anxious. Thank you!! They're such a lovely team there whenever I'm panicking about the journey they help in EVERY way they can. Thank you

Staff member at the ticket office is not helpful and not friendly.I was rushing to collect a ticket for a train coming in 5 minutes. I said “excuse me” for a few times but the staff member never noticed. I had to knock on the counter window to draw her attention. (Feels like I was bothering her?!)My card was not working when I tapped it, I didn’t know what’s wrong and what should I do. She was not helpful and just let me being helpless standing in front of the ticket counter. At last I used another card to collect the ticket and run to the platform for the train. (I didn’t know that I can use the other card to collect the ticket until I asked!)If you need to take a train here, what I suggest is to get an e-ticket online to avoid any communication with the staff!

A decent train station with a few cafes that might/might not be open depending on when you get there

A Victorian rail station boasting the usual car park, bike rack, and coffee concession. You may need to race through the subway to find your platform, and some platforms might benefit from extra benches. The station is about 15 minutes walk from Colchester town centre, so you may want to take a bus or taxi if you're weighed down with luggage. Or catch the rail connection to Colchester Town station.

Colchester has lost almost all its daytime shine. It's tired and rundown. New futureristic ideas ,usually shunned. The council have filled empty areas with eateries . Shops are not interested in returning. People shopping elsewhere. Its becoming a night time town.

Brilliantly helped this evening by Youseff in the Ticket Office. He helped me with ticketing and train times and reduced my cost by way of the Senior Railcard. He was polite and explained everything and made sure I understood about which train, where etc. If the powers that be had closed the ticket offices I can guarantee I wouldn’t have got this level of help from a machine. Thanks again Youseff, you are a star!

A reasonable station, and as a main station lots of trains do actually stop...! Also has toilets / cafe etc.
