The Mayfair Chippy
Finally tried their fish & chips after all that hype. Queued in the cold for about 40 minutes before getting a table. The food was sadly a bit of a let down. The chips were soft, not crispy at all - as if they’d been left out for a while. The oil it was cooked in was almost “old”. The fish, however, was crispy. The cod was fresh and meaty, the batter was just right - not too thick or floury. I liked the mushy peas. I think the tartar sauce lacked a bit of a kick. I reckon a squeeze of lemon (given) would help. The wait staff was great - friendly and warm. Though there was one who gave quite intimidating looks. Would I come here again? No. Would I recommend it? No. My local shop does a better fish and chip for half that price. However, if you must go, do make a reservation ahead.

4.5. Faultless Fish & Chips. I booked this restaurant to enjoy lunch on a day trip to London primarily as I am Gluten free and heard the Gluten free Fish and chips are fab, and they were! Portions large, not greasy at all, not salty either. Delicious.Service was great and attention to dietary requirements was much appreciated.Make sure you book in advance and although it’s not cheap, it’s worth it.Two minor points of improvement, my table had a very strong smell of cleaning products/ air freshener. I was in the restaurant early so perhaps area had just been cleaned but it was a bit off putting. Also at 1230 the toilets were out of toilet paper (Luckily I didn’t need it !)…perhaps customers stole all the rolls but I doubt it….Overall a great restaurant. Thanks

The service was good and welcoming. My wife was pregnant and we asked to give us a table rather than the bar table and they did.The food wasn't that good for me! I felt the fish was oily which's I dont like to have this kind of fried food I would say all Arabs would feel the same.I ordered salad that was really good the sauces that comes with dish was good too.

Can’t fault this place . We was so lucky to get here with no line outside . Quickly took advantage and sat down. Small Restaurnt but tidy set up. Simple menu and very special batter around there fish. Superb chips and lovely truffle fries too. A lot of food for the money . 1 portion of chips and fish can easily accommodate 2 .I recommend

Perhaps the best fish and chips I’ve had! Tasty, totally crispy (crust and fries), and the mushrooms were top notch crispy too. Good wines by the glass. It was £22.50 for the meal, not bad (for London). I strongly recommend making a reservation!!! Although it was well worth the wait, nearly an hour on line was tough on the feet. Service was great, friendly, efficient and helpful.

Fish and chips were awesome. They had a large wait but we ate outside (30 Fahrenheit and 0 Celsius) but the night was extremely memorable. Ibrahim, our waiter, was attentive to my gluten free needs, and his service was great. Food was so good. Worth the wait and the hype.

Made a reservation for lunch here. We ordered the cod fish and it was a good sized portion. The fish is very fresh and the batter is crispy. Also ordered the sourdough bread which came still warm and love the texture which is delicious. Service was warm and friendly.

The Mayfair Chippy is an excellent restaurant. You can always tell when you see the queues to get in. As well as a good value traditional fish & chips, they serve a full seafood menu. I wrote a full review on the Mayfair Foodie website which I hope you find of interest. Final tip I would recommend booking to avoid the queues.

I opted for the traditional Cod, accompanied by all the classic trimmings. Every bite was a comforting embrace – the fish, impeccably fried, boasted the ideal balance of crispy batter to succulent fish. Paired with perfectly cooked chips and complemented by curry sauce and tartare, it was a culinary journey through British tradition.While mushy peas aren't my personal favorite, they sat on the plate looking as authentic as one could expect.The bustling ambiance was a testament to the restaurant's popularity. By 5:30 pm, a queue had formed and tables were full. Fortunately, our foresight to book in advance paid off. With the theatre as our next stop, we were pleasantly surprised by the swift service, ensuring we enjoyed our meal without feeling rushed.Mayfair Chippy not only satisfied my Fish and Chips craving but secured a spot on my must-visit list for future London trips.

Wonderful experience! We loved every bit. We did a bit of a side by side taste test of the cod vs haddock. IT came with all the proper fixins and everything was amazing. When we first got there and saw the whopping line around the corner we figured it was going to take forever to get sat and almost didnt wait but we only had to wait maybe 15-20 min. Our Server, Aura from Italy was wonderful as well!
