Marnoch Graveyard & Watchhouse
Lovely well kept cemetary with a few special monuments including those dedicated to the Rev Hugh Chalmers (Under this monument are laid the remains of Mr HUGH CHALMERS, who, for about 36 years, discharged with the greatest fidelity, the office of pastor of this church of Marnoch. Learned without vanity, pious without ostentation, grave but not morose, he constantly studied truth and peace, and at length, after a career of 59 years, departed from this sorrowful valley of tears to the heavenly land, 5th June 1707), the Rev John Gordon which has his sculpure set into a recess (Here lies the late reverend and pious Dr GEORGE MELDRUM of Crombie, sometime of Glass, a faithful preacher who, while the times permitted, diligently discharged the duties of his pastoral office. Not being avaricious, he was rich and would not do violence to his conscience for the sake of gain; he lived peaceably and soberly and departed hence AD 1692 aged 76) and the Innes family vault. This 17th century graveyard includes an old watch house dating from 1831, located at the back of the old graveyard. The gable end of the original church stands within the graveyard but this was replaced by a new building in 1792 which was itself replaced by the New Marnoch church in Aberchirder. A modern cemetery extension adjoins the old graveyard
