We went to The Gilbertine Kitchen today to meet some friends. At the till I asked for blueberry pancakes and the young lad on the till entered it incorrectly on the till, I think he was being trained, and the staff member next to him corrected him as he said bacon pancakes, which I repeated again was wrong. I therefore assumed he had my order right. However when he brought my pancakes out there was bacon on them and he said that’s what I ordered. My friend who was with me at the till when I ordered, corrected him and confirmed I had in fact ordered blueberry pancakes and I’m vegetarian so definitely wouldn’t have ordered meat! He took my pancakes back and then came back very quickly with the correct order. I then asked him for reassurance from the kitchen that they hadn’t just removed the meat and just put blueberries on top, so he went to check. He came back and said they’d left the bottom pancake in the bowl (that had been in the bowl with the bacon and sauce) added more pancakes and blueberries. I asked him to return the dish and provide me with a fresh dish that hadn’t had meat on it which he did.To be honest I was disgusted with the attitude of the kitchen doing this and, to add insult to injury, when I got home and checked my receipt I’d been charged for for bacon pancakes. In this day and age of high numbers of the population being vegetarian/vegan, I thought their attitude was extremely poor and I’m not sure I’ll be returning as I didn’t feel respected. My low rate on my review is due to this.

Best breakfast spot ever. I had the granola with yoghurt and blueberry compote which was excellent. My family had the breakfast burrito which is a must try.

What a little gem. Excellent friendly service in beautiful surroundings. The menu isn't huge, but it is interesting and the food was fresh and very tasty

Only just found The Gilbertine Kitchen. What a location. Excellent choice of snacks and light meals. The cycling clubs are in evidence which is always a good sign that a place is worth the effort. Cheerful staff really complete the experience.

Great place for coffee and a walk, or a relaxing lunch. Food is fresh and full of flavour, plenty of seating including covered outdoor seating, beautiful location right next to good walking trails.
