Downpatrick Cathedral claims the grave of Saint Patrick.The neo-Gothic cathedral is impressive and contains some fine stained glass. Some of the pieces seem to be the creations of Harry Clarke and/or his school. Saint Patrick does not wear green in the windows here which is a welcome break from shamrock.There is a lot of history attached to this place and it is well presented. The curators are discrete, friendly and welcoming. They have the balance right on Place-of-Prayer v. Public Museum.Visiting the grave of Saint Patrick is alone worth the detour from the A1

Down cathedral has plenty of interesting things to see in it. With Saint Patrick's grave a short walk from the main doors of the cathedral. Along with the cross of Saint Patrick facing the door.

Down cathedral has plenty of interesting things to see in it. Outside is Saint Patrick`s grave. It has a simple stone over it which would meet the approval of St. Patrick who was not an ostentatious person.

If you've seen other Anglican Churches or Cathedrals then you've seen this one. Not a lot special or different about it. Friendly lady on reception but we didn't go and see St Patrick's Grave. Wouldn't rush back. Glad it wasn't paid entry. Was ok.

Down Cathedral
Down Cathedral is an excellent church built adjacent to the supposed burial site of St. Patrick. For this reason, it’s obviously one of the more important pilgrimage sites in all of Ireland. The town is really nice and quaint, and the cathedral preserves Patrick’s legacy well. Staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. The interior of the cathedral is beautiful, and the history fascinating. A worthy visit along the Patrick Trail.

I really wanted to visit st Patrick's grave and had a prayer. It's very emotional place. I appreciate I could see and touch st Patrick's stone.

A truly lovely cathedral. And full of history. Just out back is where Saint Patrick (yes THE Saint Patrick) is buried. It was special to visit this place. They were very welcoming inside and directed us to where St Patrick's gravestone is. I recommend stopping by to anyone who is in the area. They also throw a big St Patty's Day celebrating in the town, if you're interested!
