Wonderful place for a swim. Gently sloping banks to the north west side, with pebbly shoreline. Short walk from the footpath near peal farm. Suntrap to dry off in afterwards. Peaceful with jumping fish and ospreys, birdsong and tranquility. Avoid the angling club

A controlled reservoir and public water supply and the surrounding area is managed by the Scottish Wildlife Trust as a nature reserve and angling loch. There are two bird hides at vantage points on the loch where visitors can view Ospreys in summer months and winter wildfowl from September to April.

What an amazing place to canoe. Swimming, paddling, and boating (without motors) is permitted. The reserve is the best place to paddle a canoe in the area with interesting banks, plenty of bird life, beavers to look for in the North, and very little activity about. The roads are well hidden from view (as is the loch when driving the roads) and the birdsong in the early mornings and late evenings is a delight to sit silently and listen to.
