If you are in the area and are looking for somewhere to take a walk or just to chill out and clear your head after a busy week in the office then i would recommend visiting Burnhope Reservoir. A walk along the dam offers great views of Weardale. There is public access around the reservoir itself with several places on the north side to sit down and have a picknick.

If it's peace and tranquility in beautiful countryside you're after, this is a great place to go. Lovely walks onto the North Pennines fells. Can walk for miles without meeting another soul. Be prepared though, the weather can change very quickly.

A pleasant walk, could have been a lot worse. Some soggy areas where pallets were needed to cross safely. Not to be advised in winter time

Burnhope Reservoir
Burnhope reservoir is visually impressive due to its size and the age of it. Very good place for a walk and pretty secluded. There is not a great deal of parking so I'd recommend going early. In the winter the roads get icy just something to have in mind. There is a water treatment plant at the bottom of the road, if you continue past this and towards the Burhope Lodge.

Parking either side of the dam wall and you can get out at the top of the hill. Just need to open/close 2 gates

Burnhope Reservoir is a reservoir above the village of Wearhead, County Durham, England. The reservoir was created by the construction of an earth embankment dam across the valley of Burnhope Burn, a tributary of the River Wear, 1 km above Wearhead.Enjoy a peaceful circular walk
